NFL Survivor Week 2 : Redskins? Patriots?

I must admit, I may bleed Burgundy and Gold, but when it comes to my Survival League, I did not have the “Skins” to pull the trigger and risk it all on Old D.C. last week.  There was just something about Drew Brees, the Superdome, Bountygate, a rookie quarterback, and a voodoo that gave me a slight pause of concern.  For those of you who had the wherewithal to lay down the gauntlet on your claim as the Ultimate Redskins Super Fan – congratulations, my friend.  You should take your talents to South Vegas Boulevard.  You sir (or madam) have skills.

I like to play it safe the first few weeks of the year.  I selected the Texans over a Vontae Davis-less Dolphins squad who have nothing more than a rookie quarterback and no offensive threats (yes, I have my doubts Mr. Vacated Heisman).  If you’re going up against Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson, one would think that you’d hold off on trading away your one premier defensive back until after the game.  Believe me folks, this will not be the last time I select a team playing the Guppies.

Regardless, if you still have the Redskins available in your Survivor League, I do not think this is the week to play them.  The Redskins (#11 in mine and SI’s power rankings) are on the road against a lowly Rams squad (#27 in mine and #23 in the SI Power Rankings).  While I like the Skins in this one, it will be back-to-back road games for the Hogs, and the Rams did show some signs of performing beyond a Junior College-level in their narrow defeat on the road in Detroit.  Quite simply, there are better picks out there this week.  I’m targeting the Redskins for Week 6 – a home game victory lap over a depleted Vikings team.

For this week, and this week only, the mantra on your bathroom shower wall should be “In Belichick We Trust.”  A Kevin Kolb-led Cardinals squad (let me repeat that: a KEVIN KOLB-led football team) will travel cross country for an early 1:00 p.m. start against Captain America and the boys in Red, White and Blue (and Silver).  This is as good as it gets in the NFL.  Vegas has the Patriots at -1000.  For those of you not in the know – that’s a BIG favorite.

Think you can pick them better than the Ultimate Survivor (that would be me, not Jay-Z’s golden-locked goddess).  Send me your picks.  The good ones will not be used.  I have plenty of those.  Show me some wit, and I’ll show you some love.

Who is your pick for the this week's survivor?

  • Patriots (vs. Cardinals) (45%, 78 Votes)
  • Giants (vs. Buccaneers) (16%, 28 Votes)
  • Bengals (vs. Browns) (22%, 38 Votes)
  • Redskins (at St. Louis) (13%, 22 Votes)
  • Other (4%, 9 Votes)

Total Voters: 175
