We all saw the game last night. We all jumped and said “holy sh**” when Alex Smith ran into the end zone and again when he hit Vernon Davis over the middle for a game-winning, Terrell Owens-esque touchdown. Just like any other quarterback about to enter free agency, Alex Smith will inevitably be linked to the Redskins. Smith has had a great season, but has he proven that he can do it consistently? Does he have the ability to move 3,000 miles away and still perform on a less-talented team? Does he even want to leave San Francisco? The answer to all of the aforementioned questions is no.
The 49ers are not going to let the man that just rewrote post-season history walk away. Harbaugh wont have hit, Vernon Davis won’t have it, hell even Mike Singletary won’t have it (remember, they wanted winners) and he’s not even a part of the organization anymore. Alex Smith is not leaving San Francisco.
Please, Redskins fans just give it up now. Let the topic of “Alex Smith to Washington” go quietly into the night. This has about as much of a chance of happening as New Orleans soon-to-be free agent Drew Brees joining the team. Just stop.
