Hi there Redskins fans. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Nick Foxley and I will be writing a few articles that I hope you will enjoy, relate to and respond to over the forthcoming months.
I live in England and have been a Redskins fan since 1980, ever since my parents were posted to DC and I spent some fantastic holidays over there. I grew up with Joe Gibbs, Joe Theismann, John Riggins, Art Monk, Darrell Green et al so am used to, and expect a successful Redskins team. However, I won’t bore you with too many details as much of my background has been covered in an interview I did with Kevin a short while ago entitled, “Riggo’s Rag Interview: A Redskins fan in England.” That’s me in the picture, wearing my Rod Gardner shirt, sorry, jersey, my playing number for my own team, the Colchester Gladiators. Next to me is fellow Gladiator Dave Hogarth, also club chairman, sporting his (now out of date) Gladiators shirt.
If any of you are interested in us Brits playing football, you can keep up with the Gladiators’ progress in the British National League at colchestergladiators.com. I bet you didn’t know we played the game!
So I hope to bring you an English flavour, sorry, flavor, to my articles about supporting the Redskins, and hope that you’ll offer me some feedback and thoughts on my compositions by posting some comments. Us British fans are quite knowledgeable about the game now, understanding the Xs and Os, after all, the game has grown steadily over here since the early 1980’s when it first became shown regularly on television. And we’re delighted to have the International Series games each year and can’t wait for the Redskins to come back over.
Anyway, it’s great to be a part of a fabulous blog site and I hope I can add to its range of topics and encourage open discussions. See you all very soon; my first real article is on its way.
