Not all change is good. Redskins may have pulled trigger too soon

It seems like I am the only person besides Mrs. Grossman and Kurt Coleman of the Eagles that thinks it was a bad idea to bench Sexy Rexy for the Carolina game according to die hard Redskins fan Rob Giddens, (@KingBob83) on the network. Before everyone looks at me all crazy, have a seat and hear me out.

The Redskins still have a winning record. There is no need to panic and throw in the towel this early into the season. Sure Rex has had his share of bad performances, but he has also found a way to will out some pretty good wins for us. Also if you look at all the interceptions that have been thrown, how many were the result of tipped passes? Lack of aggressiveness by the reciever to go get the ball? Trying to make a play to give his team “a chance” to win? You cant just point the finger at Rex and say that he is the reason the Redskins lost to the Eagles. And who’s to say that Beck is the answer? How many meaningful games has he played in? Hasn’t Rex been to the Super Bowl as a starter? I say that because even though he may not have had the best numbers, he has proven that he can do enough to make sure that his team can remain a contender.

Another questionable trigger pull…Why bench Mr. Hightower vs the Eagles? Was this the plan all along? To start Hightower until Torain was healthy enough to take the majority of the reps? Why not just leave the line up the way it was with Hightower starting and Torain coming in as the change of pace punisher? I feel that Coach is too trigger happy and that is no way to coach a championship contending team. Look across the NFL and you dont see this type of movement. If the Redskins are to be taken seriously by the league, they have to begin acting like contenders and not  pretenders.

Now dont get me wrong, I believed Beck should have been the starter from day 1. To me he looked more poised in the pocket, less hesitent to throw the deep ball and more agile/quick scrambling out of the pocket. With that being said, I supported the Rex decision and feel it should have been carried out longer. Who knows what this will do to the high level of confidence built up to this point. Hopefully, Beck can rally the troops and take on the job well enough for there not to be another QB change. I believe he can do it.

Prediction: The Carolina Fighting Cam’s are looking very explosive but we just held the Eagles in check, which I think is a more explosive offense. I am not worried about this game at all. The Redskins defense will step up and perform well; The offense led be Beck will produce consistently and the Redskins will win easily. Final score 31-13.

You don’t get what is going on here – this is a rebuilding year. Nobody wants to face that fact, typical of the ‘skins nation (of which I have been a member since Sonny and “wobble and win with Billy”) but it is what it is. A Rebuilding Year.

Grossman did not get pulled because he had a bad game; he got pulled because across 5 starts (plus 3 from last year to make 8) he has been regular Rex, not Uber-Rex. Coaches have seen enough to know that the book on this guy is accurate, there turns out not to be any special magic here, just Rex. Now that they know that, they don’t need to see any more Rex, now they need to see Beck. The book on Beck is sparse, so they need to see him in some games to get the measure of him.

Winning the games is obviously the tactical focus – nobody wants to lose (ignoring the Luck stuff going around (of which the ‘skins are not in the running anyway)) and the fans deserve the best that we can provide, BUT the strategic focus is not “get into the playoffs and superbowl” because that is not happening this year and everybody knows that. The strategic focus is to rebuild this team, and they need to see what they have for real in the QBs because at the end of the season, they have some very critical decisions and deals to make.
