NFL.com is currently building a list consisting of the NFL’s current top 100 players. ( http://top100.nfl.com/?module=HP_headlines ) When I first saw the link, I wasn’t sure whether to click on it or not because of the lack of respect I feel the Redskins have throughout the league and I didn’t want to be disappointed. However, as a football fanatic, how can I not check out the list! I open the link an sitting at #100 is our very own beloved Donovan McNabb!!! I am ecstatic!! Even after his worst season as a professional, he managed to make the list. The remainder of my time on the top 100 list wasn’t so pleasant. Not ONE other Redskin was mentioned. How can the likes of AT LEAST London Fletcher, Deangelo Hall be considered a top player? Fletcher has only been one of the most consistent linebackers in the league his whole career. Hall was only the MVP of the Pro Bowl which technically makes him the best player in the NFL ….. right???
Instead of becoming irate and trashing the message board, I began to tally up which teams had the most players listed and how that incorporated into the success for their teams. The team in the lead was the Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers (7) which humbled my madness until I saw the 2nd place Dallas Cowboys (6)… How can a team that finished with the same record as us have that many more top players? How can they only have one less than the Super Bowl champions? I guess having the best players doesn’talways result in wins. As nice as it would feel to see more players from your favorite teams on lists like these its important to understand that football is a team game and no matter how good one player is by himself, you cant win it all by yourself.
How do you feel about the Redskins on and off the top 100 list??
