Plaxico Burress to the Redskins, not a shoe in

On June 6th, most eyes will be on Plaxico Burress’ impending release from prison.  Burress, who played with the 2007 Super Bowl Champion Giants, will hit the free world and free agency (when it starts).

Many have speculated and actually approved of the Redskins possibly signing Burress on the team to help the wide receiving corps.   Robert Henson, linebacker for the Redskins, tweeted this to Redskin fans yesterday in regards to signing the veteran receiver.

Henson then appeared on Backfield Radio, as a guest co-host and briefly elaborated on his thoughts on the situation.

I think Plaxico would be that big physical receiver. You think about Coach Shanahan when he was in Denver, he drafted Brandon Marshall.  He was high on Malcolm Kelly before he was injured.  He likes big receivers. He brought in Hankerson, which I think is going to be a great addition to guys we already have. I mean why not?

One thing I learned about Coach Shanahan is he values competition.  Show him why you should play. Plax is obviously going to come out hungry.  That’s the only way he’s gonna make the team, if he comes out hungry.  If he’s working with the work ethic his agent is saying then I can imagine what he’s capable of and how much of a fire he has burning.

For those of you concerned about the baggage and maturity level Burress has, Henson offered his opinion.

Two years in prison would mature anybody.

We’ll just have to wait and see.
