A Few Weeks that Jump the Page At First Glance . . .(Washington Redskins Schedule)

AUTHOR: | IN: A Closer Look, Breaking News, Feature Commentary | COMMENTS: None Yet

A Few that Jump the Page At First Glance . . . As we all know by now, the NFL released the full 2011 schedule Tuesday night. (See the Redskins schedule here). Last year the schedule was released just before the draft so I was a little surprised to hear it would come out a full week earlier this year. Perhaps the league offices aren’t trying to have the two morph into one weekend this year, yet make them separate so that each “event” can subsequently cash in on its own. Although it is far too early to start dishing out [...]

If history dictated the Redskin’s 2011 draft plan

AUTHOR: | IN: A Closer Look, Draft | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

As all of us anxious football fans wait around to see whether our beloved teams will actually see the field next season the one thing that seems to keep us going is the (enter buzz word here) NFL Draft.  From the day our team’s season is finished, whether it is 6 weeks into the season or the Monday after the Super Bowl, we ponder, predict, and analyze, what our team needs to do in next year’s draft.  Draft “experts” do the same, and with the combine and pro-days galore the NFL draft becomes the NYSE, where some players rise to [...]

The best Redskins defense is a good offense…

AUTHOR: | IN: Draft, NFC East, NFL draft, Opinion, Redskins | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

As draft day nears, it becomes more and more confusing to which way the draft will go. Teams begin interviewing prospects, discussing potential trades, trying to raise the value of their current picks to draw interest from teams wanting to trade up to draft a specific prospect. The draft from the Redskins perspective should be pretty simple with their early picks this year; Draft offense!! The Redskins have always had problems with becoming a consistent offensive threat to the league. Even though last year wasn’t the worst of offensive production years, it’s inconsistency caused the defense to work extra long [...]

Redskins Nation sets a course

AUTHOR: | IN: Feature Commentary, Redskins | COMMENTS: None Yet

The prevailing opinion around Redskins Nation (I hate that term, by the way. How about if we shorten it to Skins-ation? No? Forget it, we’ll go with RN for now) seems to be that the team should trade down from the Number 10 spot in the upcoming draft, recoup as many Second Round picks as possible and fill the numerous holes on both sides of the ball. NE would seem to be a perfect match (yeah, Fiddler on the Roof was on HBO this weekend, so what?), given they have six picks in the top 100, and considering their successful [...]

Mike Florio discusses possible apathy towards impending schedule release

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Feature Commentary | COMMENTS: None Yet

Mike Florio discussed the current feelings on the NFL regular season schedule. Our semi-educated guess is that fans realize it’s meaningless to even think about the slate of games absent a firm guarantee that the slate of games will be played.  Indeed, the announcement of the preseason schedule brought shrugs and smirks, given that at this point it seems to be a foregone conclusion that August will conclude with no preseason games being played. Even though mediation has resumed, the fact that the two sides lacked any urgency to talk after the lockout began and until Judge Susan Nelson ordered [...]
