A new era to begin in Washington

Previous to last season the Redskins dealt some “core” players, as dubbed my Joe Gibbs in his second stint. Rock Cartwright and Jason Campbell headed out to Oakland. Ladell Betts, a staple at backup, departed last year as well. Troubled wide receiver Devin Thomas was finally released this season. Clinton Portis and Andre Carter are no longer Redskins either and Santana Moss could join them if the “#ReSign89″ campaign fails.

Redskins Sign O.J. Atogwe

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Finally some good news out of Redskins park this offseason!! According to Adam Schefter the Redskins have reached an agreement with free agent FS Oshiomogho Atogwe. Former Rams safety O.J. Atogwe reached agreement on a five-year deal with the Washington Redskins via @AdamSchefter Not only is Atogwe a huge upgrade for a secondary that ranked second to last in the NFL last year but his familiarity with Haslett’s defensive scheme should be a huge plus.  This also fills a need for the Skins, allowing them to focus on numerous other lacking positions in the draft.  In a draft where the [...]

Latest on the looming lock-out

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Redskins | COMMENTS: None Yet

With the lock-out deadline staring us in the face this week, anything could still happen.  Since the pro-union judge issued an injunction preventing the owners from being paid several billion bucks by the TV networks during a lock-out, the dispute could turn as ugly judiciously as it was publicly before the recent talks with the  federal mediator occured.  Or, the owners and the union could agree to extend the league’s lock-out deadline, thereby giving themselves more time to work out a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA).  Or, they could agree to operate under the same arrangement as last year.   Right now, the possibilities are several.  Soon [...]

Redskins could easily be much more competitive

AUTHOR: | IN: NFC East, Redskins | COMMENTS: None Yet

When Mike Shanahan took over the reigns of the Washington Redskins, you can bet he had reason to believe the team could be competitive sooner than later.  He is, after all, very competitive.  And, he’s also a meticulous planner.  The man hates to lose and loves to scheme.  Besides, he stated publicly that he expected the ‘Skins to avoid being a rebuilding project.

Will Redskins look to Rice at Wide Receiver

AUTHOR: | IN: A Closer Look | COMMENTS: 7 Comments

With the departure of Santana Moss looking more and more like a reality, the Redskins are going into the 2011 season with a glaring need in the number 1 wide receiver slot.  It was widely thought that the team would make a run a Vincent Jackson this offseason due to Shanahan’s apparent obsession with him since draft day 2005.  Unfortunately for coach Shanahan, Jackson is off the market after being franchise tagged by the chargers, leaving the recently available Sidney Rice as the best free agent wide receiver.   Here are some of his Pros and Cons. Pros: 6’4” 204 pounds 24 years [...]
