Chris Cooley being shopped? All draft bets are off

I leave the Washington DC region for two weeks to get married and soak in some much needed sun in the Southern Caribbean only to find that the Redskins have made some fairly significant changes.  Some of these changes have been for the better; some could wind up being for the worse.  I have yet to conduct significant fact-finding on the rumor, but I heard from a friend who heard from a friend -you know how it goes- that on the Lavar Arrington show it was said that Chris Cooley is being shopped around.  Apparently Shanahan or one of his cohorts let slip to the media the news.  Again, this is just preliminary, and as I spent my first day back at work, I have not been able to substantiate the Cooley rumor.  Take it at face value.

The recent shake-up with the Skins leaves some serious questions that need to be revisited before the fast-approaching draft.  Clinton Portis is out.  Is Ryan Torain our new starting running back?  Santana Moss might walk.  We still don’t know his status.  If he does walk, does this mean the Skins take a WR in the first round?  Are we really shopping Cooley, the face of the Skins for many of the past years?  I suspect if that rumor is true, it might be a case of Cooley wanting to go more than the Skins wanting to release him.  And one last big question that still weighs the most heavily on the draft; what is the current QB situation?

If Moss walks, as I have stated before, we must take a WR in the first round.  However, we cannot make any decisions until we fully know the situation at QB.  The Redskins draft is more and more starting to look like massive algebra equations of if X happens then Y must happen.  One can only guess what Mike Shanahan has planned.  More to follow soon on the Cooley development.  It’s good to be back in the Redskins nation, though the Caribbean was rather nice.

I don’t think that they will trade Cooley, top tier TE’s have no trade value, not for our long term needs of getting a draft pick or stuff like that.

I’ve been a Skins fan for nearly 45years,but its getting harder and harder to stay loyal to this organization. Now if Cooley wants to leave, than I can understand. But if its management decision, along with having Snyder for the owner.May be what causes a devorce from this team.Dan Snyder has been the only constant in the demise of this once proud franchise. Can we trade him along with the Shanahan’s?

Now is the time to trade Cooley. We have a competent (potentially really good) backup TE in Fred Davis.

Yes, Cooley is a beast. Yes, hes a team leader. Yes, hes a fan favorite.

But lets not pretend that losing Chris Cooley will take this team from a playoff contender to last in the league simply because hes one of our most talented players.

Lets be honest. We simply arent that good…even with Cooley. People seem to forget that even with Chris Cooley, we’ve only seemed to manage 10 wins in our last 32 games. 10 wins.

We are already a lower tier team…and losing Chris Cooley wont change that.

Now is the time to trade him…if we can get the proper value for him. A 2nd or 3rd and 5th or 6th. Or a pick and a player. I dunno…Im not an expert on his value…i just know that he HAS SOME value…and this team desperately needs the YOUTH that can only be acquired through the draft.

I love Cooley, but I love winning more.

I have been a fan and watching this team for many years and I agree with the fan of 45 years, it’s getting harder to remain, but I’m still here. I would trade him for picks, but what will anyone give for him? He’s got some mileage and has been injured a couple times. I like Cooley, but I don’t see a team giving us enough in return, but I could be wrong. What is Chris Cooley’s value in a trade? I’m curious to hear what you guys think, thanks!
