DC Pro Sports Report has Redskins taking a QB

While my next mock draft is currenly under evaluation, and I will hold off until after the Super Bowl.  Team needs will always be in flux up until the time ofthe Draft.

Meanwhile, our friends at the DC Pro Sports Report have compiled a list to the top five majority mock draft picks. Pretty interesting stuff and you can find the entire report here.  However in summary:

1st Pick, Carolina Panthers:   DE Nick Fairley (Auburn) [59% of the mocks]

Auburn DE Nick Fairley is the CONSENSUS PICK to go first overall to the Carolina Panthers.  59% or 43 of the 73 mocks munched project Fairley to go first overall.  That is a change from our last mock munch on January 14, which was WR AJ Green.  59 of the 73 mock drafts have Fairley going either 1st or 2nbd overall. Here are your top 3 projected picks at #1.

NICK FAIRLEY 59%
Da’Quan Bowers 18%
AJ Green 12%

2nd Pick, Denver Broncos: CB Patrick Petersen (LSU) [41% of the mocks]

The Denver Broncos have the 2nd overall selection and 41% of the 73 mocks project new Broncos coach Jon Fox to go for secondary improvement.  Petersen dropped 5% from 46% on January 14 to 41% today.  Rather insignificant.  Petersen has been pretty steady here.  Here are your top 3 picks at #2.

PATRICK PETERSEN 41%
Da’Quan Bowers 32%
Nick Fairley 22%

3rd Pick, Cincinnati Bengals:  DT Marcel Dareus (Alabama) [22% of the mocks]

The Bengals pick third in the NFL Draft. This pick is all over the place.  Dareus leads here with just 22%.  We watch and see what kind of changes in mock drafts take place over the next few days and week with the news that QB Carson Palmer may very well request a trade out of Cincy.  De Da’Quan Bowers has been projected by 46 of the 73 mocks to go somewhere in the Top 3 picks.  Ryan Mallett, Blaine Gabbert, and Cam Newton could be the big beneficiaries of that news.  Here are the top 3 picks at #3.

MARCEL DAREUS 22%
AJ Green 15%
Bowers and Petersen 14%

4th Pick, Buffalo Bills: WR AJ Green (Georgia) [44% of the mocks]

Buffalo started the season out pretty awful, but provided some punch late in the season, starting with the Baltimore Ravens game. WR AJ Green seems to be a growing favorite here.  Green is now up to 44% or 32 of the 73 mocks projecting him tot he Bills.  52 of the 73 mocks have Green projected somewhere in the Top 4.  Here are the top 3 at #4.

AJ GREEN 44%
Da’Quan Bowers 25%
Robert Quinn 6%

5th Pick, Arizona Cardinals:  QB Blaine Gabbert (Missouri) [26% of the mocks]

This is a switch.  DE Robert Quinn led here on January 14th update.  This pick is all over the place.  QB Blaine Gabbert is the favorite of 26% of the mocks or 19 of the 73 mocks.  I cannot imagine the Cardinals not going quarterback here.      Here are the top 3 picks at #5

BLAINE GABBERT 26%
Robert Quinn 23%
Patrick Petersen 21%

For the Redskins fans, the DC Pro Sports Report has Cam Newton going to the Skins, at least the consensus of the group.  We will have to look into that again.  I was not too impressed with Newton in the BCS Championship game.  But should you look into one game or the entire body of work?

While Cam Newton is a great athlete and MAY make a good pro QB is he the project that the Skins need? Is he a project that Danny boy will wait to come to fruition?

  • Miker

You need to fix your order — the Bills draft 3rd with the Bengals picking 4th. Maybe the projections are the same but the order is not right as is.
