This year’s special teams play was full of debacles. Bad punts. Missed field goals and PATs. Those are what people remember. Those are the painful images that stick in the regular fan’s minds and linger and provide a bitter taste in their collective mouths for the duration of the off season.
However, punt and kick coverages were once again great as they have been for the last six years Danny Smith has been here. All this may change as he is being courted by the Denver Broncos and their new head coach, John Fox.
“Two strong possibilities to join John Fox’s staff – Jim Mora as defensive coordinator and Danny Smith (Redskins) as special teams coach,” Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network tweets. “Mora has head coaching experience and Fox has recently been in contact with him. Fox wanted to hire Smith last year and Skins blocked it. But Smith did not sign an extension with the Skins and would be a free agent. Would be the makings of a strong staff.”
