Rex Grossman is still not the answer to the Redskins perennial quarterback problem

For those of you who remain on the Rex Grossman bandwagon after this week…

What is wrong with you?

Sexy came back down to earth with numbers that were below average at best, and while they were a bit deflated with Cooley’s first half sausage hands, and a questionable end zone interception, they’re still bad.  Consistency is king in the NFL, and if Rex Grossman is consistent at anything it is being bad and very unenjoyable to watch.

A quarterback is in our future, whether we finish with a top 15 pick and end up with Ryan Mallet, Scam Newton, or Jake Lockear,  one of them falls to us later in the first round, or we pick a less heralded QB later in the draft, there should be a rookie quarterback coming to training camp.

The real question going into next year at QB becomes, who do we want to mentor this QB?

Is it Donovan McNabb, the proven veteran, who yes had a down year, but led the Eagles to 5 NFC East titles, 5 NFC championship games, and a Super Bowl?  He has dealt with a huge amount of drama throughout his career and been completely humble and professional throughout.  Or is it Rex Grossman who’s greatest hits include being carried to a Super Bowl with a 73.9 passer rating(best of his career until this year) before getting benched the next season, and a 4 touchdown resurgence against a 4-9 Cowboys team in a losing effort?

Is it really even a question?  I know McNabb is more expensive but why keep around a worse/less enjoyable to watch Rex Grossman to teach a new player how to stink as opposed to a proven winner who can teach him valuable skills and also how to deal with the adversity and hardships of the NFL?

Think about it; money is secondary to Snyder when it comes to personnel, McNabb could easily be better with a few improved pieces along the o-line and skill positions, and most importantly he would have another year in the offense.   The things this team could do with McNabb at quarterback seem to have so much more upside than anything that they could do with Grossman leading the way.  The trade didn’t work out, I get it, but I for one would so much rather watch McNabb in a Redskins uniform next year than Grossman while we wait for a youngster to develop.

I don’t know if he’ll be here next year, it sure looks like he won’t be.  I really hope I am somehow proved wrong or the Shanahan’s have some sort of non-Grossman secret stashed away (very possible the way they go about things).  If Rex Grossman is starting at QB next year and Donovan is gone, the fan complaints will go through the roof.  It will start slowly at the beginning of the year as it always does, then snowball into a level of complaining and headhunting that this fan base has never reached before.

All I’m saying is I would rather give McNabb another shot 10  out of 10 times than give that same chance to Grossman.  McNabb has had one bad season.  WHY is Rex Grossman, who has had no(0) good seasons, a better option in any universe?
