Tom Coughlin and the Giant's hour glass is almost up

The New York Giants and much of their fan base may not admit it, but they are very “fair weather”.  That is in my opinion, but that is not entirely their fault.  The media animal in New York is unseen anywhere else, especially when it comes to sports.

Normally when the Giants start slow fans call for head coach Tom Coughlin’s head and for Eli to kick it to the curb.  Then they start to win big games and then its “Big Blue” all up in this piece.

Will Tom Coughlin get fired?

When the Giants begin to fall apart, then players and fans invoke the “we play better with our backs up against the wall” mantra and ride on that.  That was their mantra in 2007 and they won the Super Bowl and deserved every bit of it.

Now the 2010 Giants are riding two straight losses and five quarters or poor football.  Poor and pathetic football.  The wheels may have come off and with a likely win coming for the Giants versus the Redskins this Sunday, they still may be out of the playoff picture.  Either way, they are cooked and a win over the Skins may not be enough momentum for them to get hot in the playoffs if they even make it.

In 2007, this Giants team took care of the football.  Last night, they gave it away, almost at will.  In a game where the Packers needed it as bad as the Giants, the Giants did not try hard enough.  Bad decisions by Manning.  Poor ball protection by Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs.  The list goes on.  I will also add a pass interference on Hakeem Nicks who two months ago, people were gleaming with MVP considerations.

The Giants are a better team than the Redskins and Cowboys, but they are not good enough.  And should the Giants miss the playoffs,  it could be Coughlin’s head finally landing on the silver platter.
