Why the Redskins CANNOT lose to the Buccaneers

Let’s not dance around it; the Skins have been awful these past few weeks.  We allowed the usually drubbing by the Giants last Sunday and then there’s the loss to a mediocre at best Vikings team without AP for over half the game.  Even that squeaker against the Titans is starting to look pretty awful.  This Sunday however, there simply no way we can lose to this Tampa Bay Bucs team.

Tampa Bay is coming off of their most deflating loss of the season.  They held a 10 point fourth quarter lead against the mighty Atlanta Falcons and let it slip away.  It must be debilitating to a team that is led by a 34 year old coach, has so many young players, and with that win would have firmly supplanted itself in playoff contention.  I know it’s a forget and move on kind of league but having your hopes ripped out of your hands like that has to have some sort of adverse effect right?

Fortunately for the Skins’, there’s more on the bad news front for the Bucs.

Not only did they suffer a gut-wrenching defeat but the injuries are mounting for Tampa Bay, and they are so paper thin depth wise we should be able to cut through them, even with the dull blade that is our offense.  At the beginning of the season they suspended their best safety Tanard Jackson for substance abuse, Jackson’s replacement Cody Grimm (son of our beloved Russ) had a nasty ankle injury 2 weeks ago and is out for the season, in the past two weeks they’ve lost their best cover, Aqib Talib, and their best offensive linemen, Davin Joseph, for the season with a hip injury and knee injury respectively, their best receiver Mike Williams is banged up… the list goes on and on.  Every team deals with the injury bug at some point during the long NFL season but when the Bucs blew up this team going into last year the one thing that still hasn’t really been addressed is their depth.   We have to be able to pass with a secondary that highlights a bunch of young, inexperienced 6th rounders, 7th rounders, and undrafted free agents right?  Sure it might be great depth for the future, and I applaud them for that, but right now, on Sunday, how is McNabb not going to have the best game of his DC tenure?

If McNabb and this offense have a bad, turnover riddled performance again this week, we might be in an even bigger hole than we thought.  This is the game that McNabb has to perform well in to show all the fans that he still has something left, and that we do at least have a starting quarterback in place with our extensive list of flaws.   As for the defense, Haynesworth is GONE!  The D needs to show him how little we really needed his fat lazy a**, and come to play on Sunday like they played in the second half of last week’s game against the Giants (it was much better than the first).  Who knows if that will actually happen but I think the Bucs recent misfortunes, along with the huge (about 335 pound) monkey that has been lifted off of this teams back should lead them to victory on Sunday.

Go Skins!
