Redskins fans fear short term success

Redskins fans: Hang in there!

Listen up!  This team is where everyone thought they would be, perhaps even better.  They are 5-6 heading into an NFC East clash with the Giants.  They might lose, and that is perfectly fine IF:

  1. The Giants are hot and playing on all cylinders
  2. The Redskins matched their intensity all game, but in the end do not have the talent to match
  3. The Redskins show progress from their youth

Either that or they just blow it.

But that the issue.  Fans are afraid that if the Redskins win, they Redskins Nation’s collective heart strings will be on yank for at least another week.

Ok what am I talking about?

Around town, buzz for the upcoming game is almost nonexistent from fans.  Fans aren’t calling in to radio stations. The Twitter action is at a new low for the season.  Generally fans have given up.  Not on the team, but on the season.

Fans fear that winning one week give one false hope for the next week.  Example: Skins beat a good Titans team (at least at the time) and lose to three-win Vikings team.  Redskins fans are no longer grasping for the playoffs and have started watching other teams.

Is that bad?  Not really, but it is telling of how this season went.  The Redskins opened the collective eyes of fans early, and shut them faster than it would take for them to blink.  This season has seen unexpected success met with unfathomable failures.  Redskins fans are tired. Not of the team, just tired.

Well Joe Gibbs did it, didn’t he?

Joe Gibbs and Mike Shanahan are great coaches in their own right.  The main difference is Gibbs already succeeded here.  Fan used to hang onto the three trophies he collected upon his return simply because he did it before.  Shanahan does not have that type of clout.  So if the Redskins win on Sunday, this season will be drawn out longer than it should have been.  But for you is that a good thing or a bad thing?

The Redskins are simply not good! I say that as a “realistic Redskin Fan.” We have a lot of holes to fill (RB, WR, CBs, OGs, OT, and a free safety). Can we PLEASE go back to the 4-3 defense…our 3-4 sucks! Admit you were wrong about the defense Shanny and move on…

  • RedskinsHI

This is total crap. The skins are still in the hunt and as long as were in the hunt, no real fan is thinking what your saying. Yeh we had a tough game last week, and we also had thanksgiving, black friday, so not everybody has been thinking about it. But the people your talking about are fairweather fans, who don’t realize that their are ups and down throughout every season. Joe there is no question that we have area’s of concern, but we are a new team with new schemes and new coaches, we have shown success, but we need to execute better and improve. Some fans think that the only time to improve is in the off season, the truth is during the season is when you go from being a mediocre team to a good team, than from a good team to a great team–lots of teams that were scrub teams the year before go on to win championships, you have to improve in the here and now–if you have given up, we dont want you here anyways– go join the ravens bandwagon–they are full of fairweathers– Hail all the real fans who know if we win this game we will be at .500 and have the best division record- and still have a chance to be at 10-6, a guaranteed record to get to the playoffs in the NFC.

Hey RedskinsHi…thanks for the reply. It’s amazing how well you know me from a 4 sentence text. I was lost, but now I am found…Are you Santa Claus?

  • Buddy the Elf

If RedskinsHi is Santa, will you Joe Forbes…sit on his lap and play with his beard?
