Another Year, Another Non-Playoff Season for the Redskins

I really thought this was the week, the week where the Skins proved pundits wrong and actually did something that they were supposed to do.  Won an important game that they were supposed to win and planted themselves firmly within the playoff hunt heading down the stretch.   So many good things happened leading up to the conclusion of Sunday’s game.  There was the big win against the Titans, the emergence of Keiland Williams as a consistent running threat for the offense, the whole drama within the Vikings organization, Adrian Peterson’s first half injury, and most importantly the fact that Joey Galloway was waived!  I should have been excited about this week right?

Wrong…

Here we go again, another year of disappointment, another season ending in early January.  While it’s still mathematically possible to make it to the post-season, it’s not going to happen, and it’s time to move on.  This just wasn’t the year.  We are simply not talented and just plain not good enough to be considered a playoff contender in the NFL.  There are no playmakers on offense, the defense is the worst, and we are just the same old Washington Redskins.  Our only consistent playmaker is Brandon Banks; he makes us hold our breath every time he is on the field and consistently sets the offense up with great field position.  Only one problem, we can never finish drives when we get into opposing teams territory.  It’s been a problem all season and again this week our inability to finish was on full display.  On the 65 yard kickoff return by Banks we get sacked and settle for 3 points.  After the long bomb 45 yard bomb to Armstrong, we settle for 3 points after gaining 1 additional yard.  It’s the same every year, the inability to finish games strong, the inability to put teams away, and the inability to score/stop teams when it matters most have always led to our downfall.

So what should we do?  Stand tall or fade away until next summer?

Stand tall Skins fans.   Continue to show pride and bleed burgundy and gold even when the seasons are long and the games are tough to stomach.  While this season may be over for us, we still have chances to ruin the seasons of our most hated rivals.  We can still dash the hopes and dreams of Giants fans with 2 remaining games against them (even though they have owned us the past few years), we can still finish with a winning record in the division (after 0-6 last year), and we can still beat the Cowboys twice in one season.  So let’s keep cheering until the final whistle of week 16 and hope that we can make the holidays miserable for the teams and fans we dislike the most.  Go Skins!
