Don’t panic Washington; please don’t panic. The Redskins were a 4-12 team last year. We have 5 already in 2010. I know that the 41 year old wonder gimping into FedEx yesterday and sprinting out with a victory hurt. I also know that the Redskins have been one call or play away from several wins and losses this season. That is why I propose a radical solution to this hysteria; stay the course. Shanahan is a great coach and McNabb is a pretty good quarterback when given time to throw. We have a ton of guys injured and a new face seemingly every week. The Redskins will get younger with time (sounds funny I know). The offensive line will probably get a shuffle, hopefully some more talent and less Rabach. The receiver core could use another tall receiver or somebody not named Joey Galloway. The defense needs another speed rush guy, maybe a safety or two and another solid defensive back. If you look at all the crazy things that have been going on this season then look at the Redskins record it’s slightly amazing. I know 5-6 is ugly, especially when Philly lays an egg in Chicago and the Giants almost choke at home. But fans, the future is bright. Washington is losing games because of lack of talent and talent can be replaced. Our coaching hasn’t been the best and some split second decisions haven’t gone over so well but our scheme has worked to an extent. Will Haslett have his job next year? Not sure, especially given all the yards.
I think if the Redskins can do something they haven’t done in a while and keep their head coach, both or at least one coordinator and their starting QB; they can build on this season. Maybe I’m feeling a little too optimistic for 5:47 am on a Monday after a loss like that but hear me out. If the Redskins can gain some continuity with their key players (mainly ones that will be here next year) I believe they can improve by 3-4 wins next season solely by adding talent to the roster. A few draft picks, a few free agents, maybe a trade and who knows? Maybe 7-9 or 8-8 this year can turn into 11-5 or 12-4 in 2011. I say give the guys a shot to really get it together; it’s our best option.
