Redskins Versus Titans. What Should We Do?

First of all, it is time to chill out, everyone needs to take a deep breath, bad things happen and we move on, we are not the worst team in the NFL. It’s time to look towards next week, and unfortunately (or fortunately maybe) we have no easy task ahead of us. The Tennessee Titans currently hold an active 12 game winning streak against the NFC, and have handily beaten each of our biggest rivals already this season. It doesn’t look good, but this game is a must win to get the team back on track.

So what should we do? Should we admit we’ve made mistakes? Should we just sit back and accept our role as the NFC east’s punching bag? Should we just abandon our team to go chase championships (looking at you Steelers fans from DC)? What should we do?

I wish…we had…more time, to develop this team this year but it’s just not going to happen. There is no quick fix for the problems that we have on the O-line, in the receiving crop (cutting Joey Galloway immediately would be a good start though), and with the coaching (looking at you Haslett). Going into this year, who really expected a finish better than 7-9 or best case 9-7? We’re still on track for a significant improvement, and we’re slowly digging ourselves out of a hole that we can blame solely on Vinny Cerrato’s awfulness. We have a lot of talent on this team, but even more holes, too many holes to be patched up in one offseason. We will need at least a few more years to get to where all of us fans want us to be, but we will get there.

We can’t fix everything over this next offseason. I feel a lot better knowing that we will be going into next season with a couple new players from the draft/free agency, players like Brandon Banks, Anthony Armstrong, Trent Williams, and ATV continuing to improve, no Cerrato ever again, and a proven all-pro quarterback in place. It should be the entire organization’s goal to finish this season upright, with some momentum going into the offseason so we can continue to build this team into a true contender.

Now where does the game against the Titans come in? It’s hard to think of a better opportunity to rebound and get back into a positive light than the game against the Titans. Let’s look at the situation. We are 0-2 against the AFC south, the Titans last loss to an NFC team was at Tampa Bay in October 2007(!), and the NFC east if 0-3 against the Titans this season. Wouldn’t it feel pretty good to break all three of those steaks and be the only team in the division to take them down? Couldn’t we be proud of our team for bouncing back as an underdog and coming through against a team that has had so much success against NFC foes? I think so. Go Skins!
