The Michael Vick Experience

It’s hard to figure out where to start with last night’s dreadful performance by the Redskins, but one thing that was noticeable at the game was how much the Philadelphia offense resembled something straight out of a video game.  In the first quarter (and first play of the second) the eagles had scored 35 points, 5 touchdowns, in just 18 plays!  When was the last time a team scored every 3 and a half plays that wasn’t you beating up on your little brother in a video game?  Michael Vick is ridiculous, from the first play 88 yard TD bomb to DeSean Jackson to the amazing elusiveness and the absolute dimes being thrown all over the field (9/9 on the first 5 touchdown drives).  I don’t know if I have ever seen anything like it.  The real question for me is, is our defense really that awful or is Vick just that good?  Do you remember the Michael Vick experience?     Last night was kind of like that, only better.  The only thing they could do to make that ride any more awesome would be to have it detail what went down at FedEx field last night.

Our defense on the other hand looked terrible and there is no way I am offering them a pass because they were playing against Vick.  They couldn’t stuff the run, they couldn’t make tackles (see Jerome Harrison’s 50yd TD run), they couldn’t cover anyone, and number 92 decided to take a little nap in the middle of a play, what is going on?  This defense is dripping with talent but can’t seem to get the job done in the 3-4 front.  We knew the transition wouldn’t be easy and some new players still need to be brought in to fit the scheme but allowing 45 points in the first half with our talent, really?  It falls on the players and the coaches, and while I am just as sick of coaching carousels as everyone else,  doesn’t Jim Haslett need to get evaluated at some point for the way his defense seems to make almost every opponent look like a Super Bowl contender?

What do you think?  Did we just fall victim to an on fire Vick or did our defense just lay a huge egg coming off the bye, or possibly a lot of both?

I didn’t even feel bad, and don’t yet because it hasn’t sunk in. It was just shocking. I’m in total shock.

Haslett has to go. The defense was atrocious and incompetent last night, but it’s been awful all year. The only reason the defense doesn’t look as bad as it is is lucky turnovers and opponents’ screw-ups/melt-downs (dallas). Haslett should’ve been gone already, and I don’t see how he lasts much longer.
