The Jason Campbell era is no more, but there is a new quarterback in town.
Penn State signal-caller Darryl Clark tells the Daily Collegian that he has signed with the ‘Skins as an undrafted free agent.
This summer will prove to have an interesting storyline with the 5 quarterbacks. I do not expect this team to go with more than 3, but who is on the roster on opening day will be up for debate.
Rex Grossman-Was brought in, mainly because he is a system guy, I think. He played behind Matt Schaub in Houston, but knows Kyle Shanahan’s playbook. I think he has the best shot at being the back up guy. He is not the most coveted quarterback, but did quarterback a team into the Super Bowl (Bears in 2006). He is also an experience starter, and despite his personal achievements, or lack thereof, this gives him a head up over anyone else.
Colt Brennan-Only in his third season, he is now the longest tenured Redskin quarterback on the roster. He is a fan favorite, and local folk hero. However, that will not do him much as he needs to work on his mechanics. Last pre-season, he was out played for the most part by Chase Daniels. Brennan must win out the back up role, without a doubt over Grossman in order to stay in town. He is getting too old to remain a project third quarterback.
Richard Bartel- Signed on as a practice squad player, he will have his work cut out for him. Should Brennan not win the back up role, I think Bartel may squeeze his way into that third spot for the Sunday night contest versus Dallas.
