Trent Williams was introduced to the media as the newest Washington Redskin, today in Ashburn,VA. Much like all the press events at the park this year, it was low key and no pomp and circumstance and Joe Gibb’s Super Bowl trophies were once again out of sight. The mood felt like one of relief. The press conference even kicked off with some humor as Bruce Allen asked Williams:
“Are you going to sign on time?”
Trent Williams is young and happy to be here. He mentioned in a previous interview that he was asked two things when contacted by Mike Shanahan to be informed of his draft status. He was asked if he was going to “give it his all” and if he would report on time to camp. Both of which he answered “yes sir”. He looked a kid ready to live his dream. For example, when referring to blocking for QB Donovan McNabb:
“Never in my wildest dream…I’ll probably be star struck first couple hours”
An important nugget to mention from the presser was his acknowledgement that did not always have the best work ethic. He realized he could have worked harder in his freshman and sophomore year. Where he may have slacked off there, he made up with his versatility. He has played right tackle for a majority of his college career. It was only until last season that he moved to left tackle full time. He had also played a little bit of center. Trent Williams looks good and raring to go. I look for him to be a day one starter, but he still has a long way to go.
