The Redskins new era now is underway. The Skins played it close to the vest, leading many to think they were going in another direction. Instead they went and selected a player in position they were in need of.
I have to man up here and say I missed the boat on this one. I was so enamored with Russell Okung and his high prospect status. Granted Okung was well deserving of it. In the end Williams is the better fit. He ran a 4.8 40, where Okung only clocked in a 5.2 40. Williams is clearly the better choice for Shanahan’s zone blocking scheme.
I have a few concerns. I would like to see Williams become a gym rat. He needs to beef up if he will fend off the NFC East’s fierce pass rushers. At the combine he completed less bench presses than saftey Taylor Mays.
In the end I am hapy with this pick and am looking forward to the Skins moving forward in their off season preparations.
