First Day Of Mini Camp

Washington Redskins Mini Camp

Today the Washington Redskins begin their first for four, allotted, mini camps.  For Mike Shanahan this will be the first opportunity for him to see his team run plays, play together, and listen to direction. This week was a tad bit uneventful, however making news this week were the signing of Greg Peterson, formally a defensive end for the Tampa Bay Bucs, and the re-signing of Kedrick Golston, defensive tackle.  Both moves obviously within the defensive line appear preemptive considering the whole Alber Haynesworth uncertainty.    However, the excitement will be turned up a notch as the NFL Schedule will be released on Tuesday April 20 at 7:00PM EST and the first ever Prime Time NFL Draft on Thursday night.  All this makes this weekend’s mini camp all that more important.

This weekend’s mini camp is voluntary, but many onlookers are curious to see who will be in attendance.  The start of “voluntary” workouts brought players such as Clinton Portis and Laron Landry to the facilities, when they would have preferred training on their own in years past. There are, however, two notables who I am curious to see if they attend, since they have not signed tenders yet. One would be Rocky McIntosh, and the other would be Carlos Rogers.  It was initially thought Rogers was not pleased with his tender offer, but recently told Jason Reid of the Washington Post Redskins Insider this:

“I’m still working out. I’m still going to minicamp. So all this other stuff, I really haven’t even got into it,” he said. “This has nothing to do with coaches, nothing to do with me thinking about leaving. There’s nothing to all that. It’s nothing with the Redskins within the organization.

“All my focus is just still going to minicamp. They haven’t even called me to tell me to come sign it, so it’s nothing against the Redskins. I’m happy and excited about everything now. … I just put it all behind me after talking to Coach Shanahan. It’s a new start.”

It will be interesting who things look today.  Stay tuned as we at Riggo’s Rag will be following up with all the activity from Redskins Park.
