With the addition of Willie Parker, the Redskins now have a more loaded backfield than Jennifer Lopez. My initial reaction was more of surprise. I was leaning towards the Skins actually signing him the first time around. If you recall he was given a one way ticket to come visit with the Redskins, and it seemed as if the Redskins were going to do all they could to keep him here until he signed a deal. Nothing came of that meeting, and Parker was looking ahead to a visit with the Kansas City Chiefs. However, the Chiefs singed a deal with Thomas Jones, formerly of the New York Jets, and Parker was left all alone. I presumed this would be the end of the chapter concerning Willie Parker and the Washington Redskins.
Willie Parker signed a one year deal today with the Redskins. Chris Russell of 106.7 the Fan DC reports that Parker will earn a salary of at least $3.1 million. With that said, what is to be expected this summer? Does Mike Shanahan expect to utilize all three backs? Which one of the three is most likely to get axed? Who has the best chance to start? The running back position just go a whole lot more interesting, and the first practice snap of the season hasn’t even happened yet.
