I think from about 1994 to 2008 the Redskins had the perfect set of personnel for the 3-4 and I always wondered why they kept banging their heads on brick walls trying to run 4-3. Now for the first time since Gibbs I, they really are built for the 4-3, and, they're going 3-4? Strange...to me Carter for Carriker would signify a 2-3 year rebuilding plan to fit the 3-4...Next year they'd probably replace Fletcher, Blades, and McIntosh. Haynesworth would probably have to go in 2012, if not 2011.

I think they'd be better off to leave the Defense in the 4-3 for the next two years while they put together some new pieces and draft players in 2011 and 2012 for a 2012 3-4 transition. They certainly need to spend all of their relevant 2010 picks on OL.

BTW, the 'one good player' who fits at OLB is Brian Orakpo, not Carter.

Wow. That analysis is just unbelievable.

First, Carriker is not a linebacker. He's about 300lb. He'd play end for the Redskins if they go to the 3-4 as expected. Second, Carter isn't a 'physical' DE, he's an undersized pass rusher. Third, the Redskins actually need linebackers pretty badly. They have basically one good player who's a fit at OLB in the 3-4. Carter is the right size for the job, he just sucks at it, hence Carter's and the team's unhappiness about the situation.
