Matt Leinart has been expected to be the “guy” in Arizona, but future AARP member Kurt Warner continually showed he was more capable of leading the team over Leinart. Now that Warner is retired, can Leinart step up to the challenge of being the team’s leader?
“It’s my time and I know that,” Leinart told Sports 620 KTAR on Wednesday. “I’m working my butt off to get ready.”
He says he took only a week off before preparing for 2010, due primarily to the fact that “I didn’t play very much, [and] I didn’t take many hits.”
Leinart has a lot to prove, and the bar has been set high. Two straight playoff berths and one Super Bowl appearance is the standard left by Warner. This leaves Leinart with some hefty shoes to fill.
