Jake Delhomme was released, to his surprise, by the Carolina Panthers. He was called by Head Coach John Fox, and the news was a total shocker. It was the index, middle, pinky kind of shocker for Jake.
During his press conference, he shed some manly tears, and poured out his heart on what playing for the Carolina Panthers meant to him and what he will miss. Dispite his emotional candidness, some were not all taken away by his weeping. Tommy Tomlinson writes:
If you look at it in a rational way, Jake had no reason to cry. He had a good run as a starting quarterback in the NFL. He played in a Super Bowl. Fans adored him. He has made more money than most of us will ever see. If he doesn’t want to work another day, he doesn’t have to.
But on Friday, as he talked about being released by the Panthers, he cried. Because he knew something, even if he couldn’t put words to it.
He’s past his prime.
Some think he can still start, others think he will be a viable back-up. He has earned his shot, but will he still have it?
