Alex Marvez, msn.Foxsports.com, reports on Shanahan going further into detail on runningback Clinton Portis’ status with the Redskins. Earlier in the day, he was non-committal in regards to that question. However, in a radio interview Shanahan said this:
“He’s our running back,” Shanahan told me and co-host Gil Brandt during a Friday appearance on Sirius NFL Radio at the NFL Scouting Combine.
If that is not clear anough for you, he elaborated his point further insisting that the recent negative happenings Portis has been involved with do not concern him[Shanahan].
“I don’t go back to what happened the last couple years or listen to differences of opinion. I just know what Clinton did for me,” Shanahan said. “I expect him to be in great shape and do everything he can to be the best player. If he does that, I know what type of ability he has. Hopefully, he can help us win.”
One thing is for sure, and that is Portis’ dedication to off-season work outs are crucial. It will be interesting what kind of shape he shows up to Pre-Draft Mini Camp in. Shanahan has stated that these work outs will be important, and Portis’ role will depend on it.
