He has had quite a career, and will definitely be remembered as one of the best. After learning that LaDainian Tomlinson had been released from the Chargers I immediately knew which question would be on the mind of Redskins fans here in DC:
Will LT be a Redskin next year?
Its not out of the realm of impossible considering what this team has been known for in the past. What does LT bring to the Redskins? Success in jersey sales perhaps? A final destination for a future sure Hall of Famer? That would be about it. All the LT fans are less willing to admit the decline he has had, than that of Clinton Portis. That is why I am reluctant to support Tomlinson in the ‘Burgundy and Gold’. Actually I am not reluctant, I am throughly against it.
TOMLINSON’S ADDITION IS NOT CHANGE
We know this and I had eluded this earlier, but if the Redskins did sign LT, this would not be a sign of the franchise headed in the right direction. Some experts have suspected a realistic destination would be Houston, where they host the talented backfield of Steve Slaton and Ryan Moats. That move would be more of a better choice based on the fact that Moats and Slaton have seen offensive success. The addition of LT adds veteran ability to an already talented backfield that is already established. Should LT come to DC, then he will have to join an offense in transition. Also, LT in DC probably means Portis is gone. So what does that give you? That gives you an aging running back that headlines an unproven running back stable.
In San Diego, Darren Sproles spelled Tomlinson. In DC, who spells him? Rock Cartwright? Quinton Ganther? It just is not a wise move, and it is one that I highly doubt Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan make. Chris Russell, the Redskins beat reporter for 106.7 the Fan DC writes this in his blog:
As for how some of the NFL feels about Tomlinson and if he has anything left at all, and could he be a target of the Redskins new staff? One longtime personnel executive told me via text “HE IS DONE.”
I asked another NFL source who felt that the Redskins would be better off going with the current stable of Clinton Portis, Marcus Mason, Quinton Ganther (RFA), Rock Cartwright, and Ladell Betts.
As for the current Redskins, one offensive player told me that he would prefer Clinton Portis to be retained as the # 1 back, as opposed to the team bringing in Tomlinson or drafting a running back.
There you have it, LT will not and should not be coming here, but even the strangest of story lines have developed here.
WHERE DO I THINK LT GOES?
Houston Texans
IF HE WENT TO THE NFC EAST, WHICH TEAM?
Dallas Cowboys. Why? Because its fun.
