Redskins-Falcons: End of 3rd Quarter

Posted by: truthseeker

The Redskins received the second half kick-off – touch-back.  They only amassed 69 yards of offense in the first half; Atlanta amassed 288.   3rd and 5 – Campbell runs for 19 to the Skins’ 44.  Cartwright is carrying the rock.  My my, the Skins are moving the ball.  They’re in Atlanta territory – first and 10 on the 25.  Now Betts is toting the rock.  On a screen he ran for 25 yards, getting the ball to the Atlanta 5.

From the Falcons’ 5 … Malcolm Kelly caught a pass on the 1.  Cartwright was then stopped at the 1.  3rd and goal – Cartwright was stopped at the 1 again, even though the Redskins had three tight ends in the lineup.  4th and goal – Betts ran it up the gut and scored.  Atlanta 24 – Washington 10.  The Skins gained more yards on this drive than they did the entire half.

Atlanta started its first drive of the half on their 22,  LaRon Landry ran down Aaron Stecker and kept him from converting a 3rd and 1.  Skins got the ball on their 19 after the punt.

On first and 10, Fred Davis caught a 14-yard pass.  Two runs later and the Skins were on the Falcons’ 47.  Moss ran a scary end-around – he almost fumbled.  No matter, after a 3-yard Cartwright run, it was first and 10 on the 34.  The natives were getting restless.  A Moss catch, a Betts run, and an 8-yard out route put the ball on the 19.  Ruh Roh.  The quarter is done – the Redskins aren’t.

Atlanta 24, Washington 10.  Go Skins.
