Zorn Stripped of Play Calling Duties
According to Jason Reid of the Washington Post, shortly after the Redskins loss to the Chiefs, Vinny Cerrato met with Head Coach Jim Zorn and “told him he thought Zorn had too much on his plate.” Therefore, Zorn agreed that he will no longer call plays. The team will decide who will call the plays on Monday. I’d like to say that this is a good thing. It is a good thing really. But it’s too little too late. The season cannot be salvaged at this point in time. This seems like little more than another sign that Zorn will [...]
Chiefs Kick the Redskins
Today, the Washington Nationals lost a competitive game to the Kansas City Royals on back-to-back grand slams in the bottom of the 9th inning. Check that – the Redskins lost to the Chiefs 14 to 6 thanks to two 4th quarter Kansas City field goals and a safety. How this could have happened should be beyond me. Actually, it’s not. It was the same old, same old for the Skins’ offense. They are, without a doubt, one of the most inept offenses in the league, regardless of their talent on paper. They may be the most inept after today, though [...]
Chiefs-Redskins: End of 3rd Quarter
You had to wonder if this was coming. Jason Campbell was pulled in favor of Todd Collins. Collins promptly completed a bomb to Santana Moss, but the Skins had to settle for 3 points. After the Redskins held the Chiefs, Portis ripped of a 78-yard run. That was the longest run of his career. But alas, the Skins had to settle for 3 points again after having a 1st down at the Chiefs’ 11. After the Skins’ kick-off, FOX encountered technical difficulty. The broadcast went off the air. Nice. Kansas City’s receivers have dropped several balls. That said, Cassel put [...]
Chiefs-Redskins: End of 1st Half
Ugh. The Redskins won the field position battle in the 2nd quarter, but couldn’t take advantage of it on offense. The Skins’ punter (Glen Pakulak) is on; Jason Campbell is off. He missed an open Santana Moss downfield, and then missed Chris Cooley on 3rd and 4. This is not his best game so far. I keep thinking How long can the Redskins’ defense keep playing well when they’re on the field more than the offense? Fortunately, it’s not hot and the Chiefs’ offense wasn’t sustaining most of its drives. Sure enough though, Larry Johnson ripped off a 17 yard [...]
Chiefs-Redskins: End of 1st Quarter
If you don’t like watching the Redskins’ offense look futile, you didn’t like the first quarter. The defense played it’s usual good game, and really got to Cassel. The special teams weren’t great, but played okay. The offense? Portis fumbled to end the first drive when the Redskins started to establish some rhythm. Then, it was 3 and out on the second drive. Fortunately, Cassel has been sacked 3 times, and hurried several more times. The Redskins’ third drive started on their 39 after the defense stopped the Chiefs on a 4th down. They opened with a bomb to Devin [...]
Chiefs-Redskins: A KC Fan Speaks
I mentioned in my last post that I have family in Kansas City. One of my extended family members responded on Facebook to that post. I thought his comments were quite insightful, and am therefore sharing them with you. After reading them, I realized the Redskins’ advantage at Tight End will be a moot point if Cooley has to stay in and block. Of course, that could lead to Randle El being thrown to more, which would not be a bad thing. Nonetheless, the Skins will need Cooley to run routes when they’re near or in the red zone. Nice [...]
Chiefs-Redskins: Just the Facts
Much has been made of the fact the Redskins have yet to face a team which had a single victory coming into its game with the Skins. If you discount week 1, the Skins have faced teams they clearly should have beaten. Yet, here we are in week 6, and the Skins’ record is 2 – 3. As fate would have it, they’re playing another winless team. The soft part of the Redskins’ schedule is over after this week, except for their Dec. 13 visit to the Raiders. So, the Skins had better win if they want to have any [...]
