He's the wrong choice for head coach and he's in over his head. However, the true source of the problem is the front office and the lack of an experienced general manager. Would a different head coach do better with this team? Probably. But the underlying problems would still be there and this team will never be truly competitive until the front office stops playing amateur hour and hires someone who knows what they're doing.
