There are two minutes to go in the half. It’s 7 – 6 Rams. What looked to be a dominating performance by the Redskins on both sides of the ball turned into a competitive game with about 7 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter. The Skins have given the Rams a certain amount of life by not scoring when they’ve gotten into the red zone. The Rams haven’t exactly quit either. They showed their appreciation by moving the ball down the field in 10 plays, primarily by putting the ball in Steven Jackson’s hands. No surprise there. LaRon Robinson caught a fade from Mark Bulger for the Rams’ only score.
Early observations – Campbell looks good; Sellers dropped a pass that would have moved the ball to the Rams’ 3 yard line; the Redskins have looked confused a couple times on defense; the Skins are tackling better than they did against NY last week; Cooley is killing the Rams but can’t do it all by himself. Both teams’ players have dropped the ball several times.
On what is likely to be their last drive of the half, the Skins got the ball on their 22 with 3:50 to go. Portis, who was limping earlier in the quarter, ran the ball for 6. Derrick Dockery’s second penalty negated five of those yards. Fortunately, Cooley caught his sixth pass which was good for 16 yards. (Too bad the Redskins already used two of their timeouts trying to get in sync.) Portis gained another few yards – the Skins have a 2nd and 7 at their 43.
