Rams Need to Pass to Win

by Redskins

At one time, it would be herecy to even think that a team which loses like losing is an art form could come into DC and beat the Redskins.   But, it is another day, isn’t it?  The Redskins laid a monstrous egg last year in losing to the St. Louis Rams.   The Skins lost three fumbles en route to a 19 – 17 loss.  Up to that point, the Redskins hadn’t turned the ball over, not once.  It was a hideous game to watch, but watch we did.  Ouch.  So, strange as it may sound, the Redskins have a pay-back game with the Rams.

I like St. Louis.  It’s a fun city with lot’s to do.  If it were a dog, I’d pat it on the head and say “nice doggie”.  I might even feed it.  But eventually, I’d return it to its owner.  And that’s what the Redskins need to do today – return that puppy named the Rams to its home.  But, this dog needs to go home hungry.  Real hungry.  Feed it, and it may just come back for more.  Oh wait, that already happened.

Word from St. Louis is that the Rams’ head coach, Steve Spagnuola, made the Rams practice Friday while listening to ‘Hail to the Redskins’.   Bill Coats of the St. Louis Post Dispatch referred to it as “the annoying Washington fight song’.  The players were reportedly expecting to hear crowd noise during practice, not the Skins’ anthem.  Maybe Spagnuola is a prophet.  Maybe he senses how hungry the Redskins are for a win after losing in week 1 to the Giants.  Maybe he knows how badly they want to restore their pride after embarrassing themselves  in the Rams’ game last season.  Maybe he also knows how badly the Skins want to protect their home field and essentially start the season over.  Mayhe knows the Rams will hear ‘Hail to the Redskins’ a lot today.  Maybe they’ll even sing along since they’re so familiar with it already.

Jim Thomas of the Post-Dispatch gives the edge to the Redskins when the Skins run and pass the ball, and when the Rams pass.  I tend to agree with him, but I say wait and see.  I’m convinced both teams will run, a lot, and that both will try to hit a few deep passes early.  I believe the Redskins and Rams will try to beat each other at their own games.  The teams are very different on paper; it’s the tactics that could very well be the same.  Until the middle of the 3rd quarter, that is.  By then, one of these teams will be playing catch-up and will pretty much abandon the run.  If that team isn’t the Rams, I’ll be shocked.  Then again, I was shocked last year.

Redskins 27 – Rams 17.  Go Skins!
