State of the Redskins

AUTHOR: truthseeker | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Kevin of www.sidelionreport.com just interviewed me for the Detroit Lions edition of Fansided.com.  He was very gracious in his line of questioning.  He opened with a very interesting question, which I’m now going to ask other Skins’ fans to comment on in this blog space.  Did the Lions win the game or did the Redskins lose it?  I answered “The Lions won it.”  Do you agree or disagree?
Kevin also asked me if the Redskins’ locker room is showing signs of internal factions?   Having watched the various interviews on Redskins.com, I’d say “yes, to some extent”‘.    Chris Cooley said [...]

Redskins-Lions: Facts are Facts

AUTHOR: truthseeker | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 11 Comments

What you see is what you get.  You are what your record says you are.  Shoulda, woulda, coulda.  Did anyone get the license number of that truck?  Have I left anything out?  Oh yea: “I didn’t think …”; “I felt …”.  Those last two were uttered by Jim Zorn during his post-game presser.  Never-mind what came after those phrases – it really doesn’t matter.  We saw the game; we got it.
This game was a tale of two halves.  Someone in the locker room uttered that exact statement after the game – he was referring to how the Redskins’ defense played.  [...]

Redskins – Lions: Early 4th Quarter

AUTHOR: truthseeker | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

He who controls the clock, controls the game.  Well, maybe not.  Well, maybe.  Heck, I don’t know.  This edition of the Redskins defies convention.  Fortunately, they’re playing a Lions’ team which, while not making many mistakes, had committed a couple of strategic penalties.  Jason Campbell, meanwhile, has had trouble holding onto the ball.  He’s only turned it over once, but he’s nearly done so a couple more times.  It’s enough to make a die-hard fan crazy.
The Lions are up 13 to 7, but Campbell has given them some life.  He scrambled for over 15 yards on a gimpy ankle.  You [...]

Redskins – Lions: Early 3rd Quarter

AUTHOR: truthseeker | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: None Yet

Good things come to those who wait, or so the saying goes.  That’s a good thing, because I have rarely been as frustrated watching a game as I was today during the first half.  I didn’t know who to be mad at, frankly.  The Head Coach and the Quarterback came to mind, but the Skins weren’t playing well as a team.  So, I waited, and guess what?  The Redskins threw the ball deep enough for Moss to run it into the end zone.  The problem is, the Redskins’ defense has been on the field so much in this game those [...]

Redskins – Lions: 1st quarter

AUTHOR: truthseeker | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

One minute to go in the first quarter, and it’s ugly in one respect.  The Skins have the ball, and as usual, they’re moving the chains.  But you have to ask, what part of “don’t run the same plays inside the 10″ doesn’t Zorn understand.  Whatever his first instinct is when the Skins are down close, he needs to just say no to himself.  And what is his fascination with going for it on 4th down EVERY TIME?  Take the 3 points.  You can mix it up later.
If the red zone woes aren’t enough, especially with all those weapons, why [...]

Open Letter to Lions’ Fans

AUTHOR: truthseeker | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Hey there Lions’ fans – all three of you.  You’re so hospitable, and your team can be so accomodating.  Detroit (Ford Field, the Silverdome, whereever) can feel like a home game to every team in the league except the Lions.  After all, visiting teams’ fans can take their pick of seats close to the action.  (It’s been that way at FedEx for a while too, but that’s different.  The Redskins’ owner’s created that mess by selling premium tickets to ticket wholesalers.  At least at FedEx you can’t pay for $60 seats and sit on the 50 yard-line 20 rows up from the [...]

Redskins Need An Identity

AUTHOR: truthseeker | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Redskins’ lore is filled with faces of the team:  Baugh, Battles, (both before my time), Jurgenson, Huff, Lombardi, Mitchell, Allen, Taylor, Hanburger, Fischer, McDole, , Talbert, Brown, Kilmer, Riggins, Theismann, Houston, Green, Gibbs, Monk – you get the idea.  Through the years, the Washington edition of the Redskins (Pro Football Inc.) has had three majority owners: George Preston Marshall, Jack Kent Cooke, and Daniel Snyder.
Mr. Snyder has overseen an era where the team has had no consistent on-the-field identity.  Sometimes LaVar Arrington was the face of the franchise, sometimes Clinton Portis has been, and [...]

Redskins 9 – Rams 7

AUTHOR: truthseeker | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 9 Comments

I’m confused.  I admit it.  Jason Campbell played well today.  The Redskins outgained the Rams by more than 100 yards.  They had 7 more first downs than the Rams, and possessed the ball for almost 10 more minutes.  They ran 20 more plays than the Rams.  The penalties and turnovers were almost even.  I can’t find a stat to explain how the Skins only won by 2 points.  Oh yes I can – it’s called red zone efficiency – 0 for 5.
I’m trying to think of this game as an improvement over last week.  A win is a [...]

Rams-Redskins Halftime: Replay of Last Year?

AUTHOR: truthseeker | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Redskins are doing it again.  An uncharacteristic fumble by Santana Moss, an uncharacteristic drop by Mike Sellers, and a few untimely penalties.  That’s all it takes to keep an inferior team in a game, even when you play at home.   Rams still 7; Redskins still 6.
The fans booed as the Skins’ players walked off the field.  Given how the Skins played during most of the first half, that’s unwarranted.  Given the fact they’re down to the Rams due largely to their own ineptitude at key junctures in the game, it’s warranted.  Warranted or not, it’s too early to [...]

Rams-Redskins: 2 minute warning

AUTHOR: truthseeker | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: None Yet

There are two minutes to go in the half.  It’s 7 – 6 Rams.  What looked to be a dominating performance by the Redskins on both sides of the ball turned into a competitive game with about 7 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter.  The Skins have given the Rams a certain amount of life by not scoring when they’ve gotten into the red zone.  The Rams haven’t exactly quit either.  They showed their appreciation by moving the ball down the field in 10 plays, primarily by putting the ball in Steven Jackson’s hands.  No surprise there.  LaRon [...]
