The 4th quarter is about to start, and I must say I’m not surprised that the 3rd quarter featured interceptions, penalties, and a touchdown for each team. By the way, the Redskins just committed their 13th penalty of the game to start the 4th quarter, and it was a big one – 15 yards for roughing the passer.
Back to the 3rd quarter wrap-up. Colt Brennan looks capable but is inconsistent. He hit Marko Mitchell for a sweet 30-yard scoring strike. Mitchell continues to shine. Brennan was understandibly ecstatic. He needed a lift. Chade Daniel is breathing down his neck, so to speak. At least Brennan doesn’t get called Brennans by sportscasters all the time.
There’s 12 1/2 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. The Patriots are running through the Redskins’ defense like it’s a walk in the park. Since the score is 24 to 24, and the Patriots are on the Skins’ 11 yard line, now would be a good time for the Skins to tighten up that run defense. HB Blades to the rescue – he stuffed a run play and may have forced a fumble. Zorn is challenging the ruling that the runner was down by contact before he fumbled.
Spotlight on Kevin Barnes – he had a nice interception during the 3rd quarter, and then was called for a non-existent illegal contact penalty. I guess the refs just wanted to get some practice in throwing the flag and making mistakes. Barnes looks comfortable out there. Go Terps. Speaking of Terps – Marcus Mason is having a monster game.
The replay ref is about to rule – the ball definitely came out before the back was down. The Skins have the ball on their own 10 yard line with 11:37 to go in the game.
