Barring major injuries to their starters, the Washington Redskins are on the verge of surprising their critics. They may not silence them, but they should surprise them. Even with a significant injury to one or two starters, they could still defy the pundits. How can that be, you ask? Is this just the wistful musings of a homee?
To be sure, I am a die-hard fan. I’ve had season tickets for 5 years, and have been a fan since the doctor who delivered me slapped me on the butt and I said ‘I hate Dallas’. But guess what? There’s logic behind [...]

Redskins 24, Patriots 27
The fat lady just sang, but not before Gostowski kicked the game-winning field goal for the Patriots. It appeared to me that Belichek was tired and just wanted the game to end. Imagine his horror if the Redskins had returned the kick-off to the 35 yard line and Suisham had converted a 52 yard field goal to tie the game. Suisham missed a 52 yarder wide left earlier, so he would have welcomed the chance to redeem himself.
Post mortem – Anthonly Alridge, Dominic Dorsey, Kevin Barnes, Hunter Smith, Marko Mitchell, and Devin Thomas – outstanding. Malcolm Kelly & Jason Campbell- [...]
The 4th quarter is about to start, and I must say I’m not surprised that the 3rd quarter featured interceptions, penalties, and a touchdown for each team. By the way, the Redskins just committed their 13th penalty of the game to start the 4th quarter, and it was a big one – 15 yards for roughing the passer.
Back to the 3rd quarter wrap-up. Colt Brennan looks capable but is inconsistent. He hit Marko Mitchell for a sweet 30-yard scoring strike. Mitchell continues to shine. Brennan was understandibly ecstatic. He needed a lift. Chade Daniel is breathing down his neck, so [...]
Look out now – the Skins are moving. They got the ball near their 40 and voila, several first downs in a row. Jason Campbell is throwing lights out now. From the Patriots’ 31 he tossed it into the end zone to Moss to no avail. If that doesn’t work, just pick up 7 or 8 yards on a screen to Devin Thomas. That’s the ticket. A Patriot player is down. Please Lord, don’t let him be seriously injured. Thank you Lord it’s not a Redskin player. Ah yes – Darius Butler – Stephon Heyer leveled him. He’s okay. Thank [...]
I’m seeing, but I’m not believing. Penalties galore, a deep safety who gets faked out of his athletic supporter, two face mask penalties, an unusual unsportsmanlike call on the bench, a defense which can’t stop the run, and an offensive line which can’t run-block. Am I in a time warp? Is this the Redskins’ team that lost to New England 52 to 7? El stinko.
So, that’s the bad news. The good news is that Campbell looks okay so far, Moss looks great except for a 3rd-down drop, the punt and kick units look better compared to last week, and Fred [...]
Eagles Won’t Win NFC East
Eagles’ fans are a blast. After a loss or close win over a perceived less-than-worthy opponent, you pretty much have to talk them off of the proverbial ledge. They’re ready to jump to their deaths while obscenely skewing their beloved Eagles for every stupid move, real or imagined. I feel for them, I really do.
In honor of these poor tormented souls, I’m going to torment them some more. First, as Bill Parcels reportedly once said, you’re as good as your record says you are. Under the Reid/McNabb regime, the Eagles have gone to the NFC Conference Championship 6 times, losing [...]
The Media vs The Redskins
Ah yes, the established, entrenched media. Say anything as fact, rehash everything, and for goodness sake, express those expert opinions which aren’t worth the cost of a single subscription because Columnists don’t get to know the teams on which they report well enough. In the Redskins’ case, here are some recent gems …
Washington Post: ‘But Campbell enters his third full season as a starter under even more scrutiny given the fact that the Redskins have not signed him to a contract extension, as well as the fact that the club tried to trade for Jay Cutler, then with Denver, and considered [...]
He blocks, he causes a fumble on a punt, and he catches a touchdown pass from Chase Daniel. Guess what? Fred Davis looks like an entirely different player. He’s a site for sore eyes.
Speaking of turning it around, I believe Justin Tryon has acquitted himself, as well. He’s played most of the defensive snaps, and he isn’t getting picked on. Sadly, the Redskins’ kicking team is getting picked on. They’re being downright abused by the Steelers’ kick return team.
Mike Williams and Anthony Alridge aren’t getting a chance to step it up like Tryon, Dorsey, [...]
Redskins Tied with Steelers
5+ minutes to go in the 3rd quarter, and Chase Daniel has just moved the Skins down the field to tie the game. He capped the drive off with a beautiful fade pass to Marko Mitchell, but it was Marcus Mason who made the biggest statement. He just kept moving the chains.
So, what do you know? The kick-off coverage team gave up a 60-yard return. Somebody on the coverage units isn’t going to make it past the Sept. 1 cut-down to 75 players. One Special Teamer who will is Dominic Dorsey. He’s looked great [...]
The Skins’ second-team defense is making the Steelers’s second/third team offense work for everything it gets. Still, the Steelers are moving the ball. This is another situation where a turnover seems likely. Keep throwing, and the Redskins will keep blitzing. Something’s gotta give.
It’s third and 10, so here’s the perfect opportunity. Nope – Kareem Moore lunged at the ball and missed. Big 1st down. But wait, another review. Could it be that the ball was trapped? I doubt it this time. Unfortunately, the pass was caught.
Orakpo looks GREAT. But, just [...]
