As I sit here writing this remember, I am typing quietly for fear of jinxing number 17. Keep this between us, Jason Campbell (230 pass attempts) has a chance to break the great Bernie Kosar’s record for most pass attempts without an interception (308 pass attempts). A record Brett Favre could only dream of having. The fact is our young stud QB continues to prove everyone, including myself wrong as he takes the term protecting the ball to another level.
If someone told me back in August that Campbell would have ZERO interceptions through the first eight games, I would’ve laughed at them and told them they’re crazy. We all knew Jason had big upside, but he had a slight turnover problem last year as he finished with 11 interceptions in 13 games. That coupled with the fact that he would be going through yet another coordinator and yet another offense you can see why us Skins fans were a little weary. Yet here we are in week 9 and Jason has yet to throw a pick. Did Jim Zorn have that much of an affect on him? Well, yes it has a lot to do with it, but the other part is Jason’s confidence in himslef, he believes that he can do anything he wants on a football field.
This feat is truly remarkable when you break it down, just think of how many games this year that interceptions have cost a team. I can think of one that happened Sunday in which Brett Favre (no I don’t hate him) almost cost his team as they had to rally against the lowly Chiefs. The athleticism and speed displayed by today’s DB’s has to be mentioned, I’m not saying they were slow back in the early 90’s when Kosar played, they are just getting better every year. Yet Jason goes along unfazed by this and continues to grow into the QB us Redskins fans have been craving for quite sometime now. Consider this, Jason completed 23-25 for 328 yards on Sunday. Only one ball hit the ground he could’ve easily been perfect as a couple of balls were caught out of bounds by Santana (don’t call me Santonio) Moss. Granted we are talking about the Lions here but still that’s impressive no matter who you are playing. Some fans want him to throw a pick already, so the pressure is off him, I say ride it out Jason, let’s get that record. No matter what happens this season Jason has already proved he is among today’s best and that he is the future of the franchise. I really hope I didn’t jinx the young man, but something had to be said. So if Jason throws a pick against the Steelers this Monday night you all know where to find me.
