Once again the Redskins were subjected to a hot game-day, despite early predictions to the contrary. Fortunately instead of near-100 degree record-breaking temperatures, it was merely very hot and sunny and in the mid-eighties. Kudos for Snyder and the Redskins Park for making some changes to help keep fans from dropping like flies again this week; beer vendors were also noticably selling water this week when they made their rounds in the stands. This is our last home game until mid-october so let’s hope that by then we won’t have to shell out an extra twenty for waters just to avoid heat stroke and dehydration.
As before, I conducted a very unscientific poll by pestering people who were tailgating near us. This week, I thought I’d get a State of the Union. I asked everyone if they approved of the job Jim Zorn was doing. If my sample size is any indication, the clear answer is YES. Redskins fans overwhelmingly said that they approved of the job Zorn was doing and that they were pleased with his performance so far. In fact, of the 32 people I questioned, only three said “no.”
I also asked several people if they would want Joe Gibbs to come back if they could have him; without exception, everyone said no. I don’t think this was intended as any slight against Mister Gibbs, but rather it recognized that his heart was no longer in it and that, at best, we would only have to go through this whole mess again in a year or two. So Jay Zee, it seems that so far Redskins fans are largely behind you. Keep in mind that this poll was conducted BEFORE the Cardinals win; I can only assume that fan confidence has gone up since then. We’ll see if that stays true when we return to our next home game in October.
