Cover-Your-Eyes Awful

AUTHOR: guyskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 8 Comments

Okay, so let’s face it. The last two preseason games have not exactly been encouraging.  I was willing to maybe give them a pass on Carolina with Joe Bugel’s daughter tragically passing, but they didn’t look much better against Jacksonville.  I could be like some Eagles or Dallas bloggers I know and come up with all sorts of funky rationalizations on why we look so terrible.  Oh, it’s preseason; preseason means nothing.  All the good teams lose in preseason.  Blah blah blah.   Guess what, the really bad teams lose in pre-season too.
We stink right now.  There, I said it.  I [...]

The Rag Around the Blogosphere

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

As you probably know, the Rag is a part of the Fan-Sided network of blogs.  And in exciting news for the FSB, we have partnered with Yardbarker to be the sole provider of their NFL previews. You can find all 32 previews (including mine) here. I can tell you this, some of our division rivals (I won’t say which one, but it rhymes with Jeff Feagles) have delusions of grandeur.
And as long as I’m already a star on more than one site, I should tell you that I did this week’s power rankings on our Fan Sided mainsite.  You can [...]

Madden ‘09 Review

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

If you are like me, you’ve been playing Madden for many of the last 24 hours.  However, you may be waiting for the weekend or you are in a bad relationship or something and you don’t have Madden yet and you might be wondering whether it is worth spending $65 on yet another Madden reprise. My answer?  Not really.  For the 5th or 6th year in a row EA has produced a mediocre product with increasinly poor game play. That said, unlike the last two versions, this one actually has stuff that can be described as new. And if you’ve [...]

Predicting the Roster

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 7 Comments

Sure there are 3 preseason games left, but it is never too early to take some guesses at the final 53:
QBs (carrying 3)- Campbell and Collins are locks.  Colt Brennan has demonstrated enough talent that he is not being released either.
RBs (carrying 5)-Portis, Betts, Sellers, and Cartwright are locks.  Marcus Mason or Nemo Broughton will be the 5th depending on whether we decide to carry two FB’s.  Mason has also put enough on film that I can’t imagine even with the fumble that he’d pass wiavers so Nemo is the guy who gets cut. Sellers gets hurt, we can always call Broughton [...]

Erasmus James Activated and Landry Practicing

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: None Yet

The man, the machine, the monster, Jason La Canfora posted in his blog that Erasmus James has been activated and that Laron Landry is practicing. And Matt at the official blog also reports Devin Thomas is not only practicing but has been impressive.
There isn’t a ton of stuff to say about this other than “thank god.”  Thomas needs to be on that field to learn the offense and contribute.  As it is, with the extra preseason game, he still has three games to prepare.
I don’t expect Erasmus James to play until the 5th preseason game while he rounds into shape, [...]

Our Thoughts and Prayers for the Bugels and the Yoders

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Redskins reported today that Joe Bugel was excused from the team to fly to Arizona to be with his daughter who has bone cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bugel family, and I’m sure I can speak for Redskins fans everywhere that this is true for us all.  I hope I’m wrong, but the fact that the team says he’ll be gone a few days makes it sound like there is little hope left for a miracle. I sure hope I am wrong.
Our thoughts and prayers also go out to the Yoder family.  It was reported in the [...]

Bills Game Wrap-Up

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 13 Comments

Sorry for the slow wrap-up.  Undoubtedly you went elsewhere for one while I was at the beach with my family. So rather than describe the game, I’ll just hit you with some random thoughts:
- Another big mo game.  I’ll keep saying it every time even if we go 5-0 in the preseason, pre-season means nothing.  The old Gibbs teams almost never had a good year in preseason the years we won the Super Bowl. But for this team, this coach, this offense, winning is way better than losing.  I haven’t heard anyone on TV say, “Zorn hasn’t even called plays [...]

Saturday Preview

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Just a preseason game, but hey, its football, and we’ve been told the starters will be out there an extra series or two. Obviously, in his short time in DC, Coach Zorn has discovered the Rag, because just as a blegged in my Wednesday post, JZ has seen fit to get Portis into action. This probably has more to do with Rock Cartwright getting hurt than anything, but I’ll be happy to take the credit.
We can also expect to see Anthony Montgomery who is back from his broken hand. Others we can expect to see in action for the first [...]

Jason Taylor’s Secret Motivation Technique

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: None Yet

Matt Mosely did a nice little interview of Jason Taylor over at ESPN.  I won’t talk about it too much.  I’ll let you read it.  But there is one little detail was that Mosely said that Jason Taylor used to motivate himself in his first training camp with a card that said, “1. Make the team. 2. Become a starter.  3. Win!” Mosely says that Taylor has a new card that has four points on it but he says Taylor isn’t telling anybody what it says.
Well, I have several key sources that have provided me with that card.  The interesting [...]

We Have a Winner

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: None Yet

Just a quick post to say we have a winner in the Redskins Rides contest.  His name is Mark (other details held back for his privacy).  Thanks for all the people who entered and went to the Redskins Rides site.  Even if you didn’t win, please consider going to the event.  It should be lots of fun, and it is for Eastern Motors and Redskins charities.
For anyone who missed the earlier posts, you can find all the details here. We’re going to be trying to cover the event this weekend.  Come back to hear about the fun.
