A Chance Encounter with a Redskin
Octopus, a regular poster over at The Landry Hat, shared an encounter he had with Fred Smoot. Although he’s a lousy Dallas fan, I’ve found him to be reasonable and credible so I thought I’d share his brief encounter with greatness.
“I was living in Herndon, VA in 2001-03. I went to a 7-11 after work one day I saw a guy in the store. I walked over to the guy and said ‘Hey dude, are you Fred Smoot?’ He said ‘Why do you think I’m him?’ I told him I thought it was him because it looked like him and because the low-rider outside had a MSU license plate. Blah,blah,blah, we talked a little and I said to him good luck this year except when you play the Cowboys. HAHAA then I asked him why the Redskins had lost to the Boys sooo many times in a row and he said ‘because I haven’t played against them yet!’ It was Fred’s rookie year right after the 1st preseason game that summer. I believe Smoot got a pick that game also.”
That does sound like the Fred Smoot I’ve been watching. I only wish that he had made the difference in those Dallas games. Maybe he meant his second time around, since he’s 1-1 against Dallas since his return. We’ll have to see how he does next year.
