You make it sound good. If we can get him and it's like that, then I'm in. I'd certainly be excited about adding a Chad Johnson to the team. Just as long as we don't give up all our draft picks or destroy our future cap situation, it sounds good to me.

Well, I'm not getting my numbers from a source. It is just an educated guess based on the cost of recent WR trades, particularly when the receiver wanted out. Randy Moss was a 4th rounder. Javon Walker was a 2nd rounder. Wes Welker (who did not force a trade) was a 2nd rounder. The Eagles couldn't even trade Owens because he behaved poorly enough. They had to release him.

Basically, in recent years I can't think of someone who forced their way out of a city where the team got a first rounder. If I were the Redskins I'd discreetly pass on to Drew Rosenhaus that if Chad wants to be a Redskin, they would be willing to ignore some situps in the driveway. If Chad tries hard enough, we can get him for a 4th rounder. Just watch.

As for the contract, I really don't care about that. Dan has the money. He wants to spend it, and if any team has shown that the salary cap is a joke, it is the Redskins. We'll sign him to a big signing bonus and a backloaded 6 year deal that won't even hurt the cap. There will be so many roster bonuses and performance triggers we'll be sending him a new check every week of the offseason, but his cap number will be like a buck and a half.

-DW

It's not that I don't want him. But look at what Javon Walker got in Oakland. Johnson is going to want a huge contract. I just don't know if it's wise to pay him what he's going to want. I was also operating under the assumption that the Bengals would want more than a 2nd round. If they'll take a 2nd round for him, that obviously is more viable. I'm not sure where you're getting your numbers though. But if they'll take a second round from us, you'd think that some other team would offer a 1st round. How exactly is he going to fall to us for a 2nd round? The cowboys have two first rounds to spend and JJ is desperate to make a splash.
