Jim Fassel or Gregg Williams

Posted by: daveskins

With a hat tip to Hog’s Haven, Jason La Confora is announcing that Dan Snyder has narrowed down his choices to two– Jim Fassel or Gregg Williams.

No freaking way!  Seriously?  I can’t think of anything worse.  Why would we hire the man who most recently got fired as an offensive coordinator and before that got fired from the New York Giants who have since gone on to go to the Super Bowl with a crappy coach and Eli Manning?

The thing is, Jason La Confora is one of the best so I don’t doubt he’s done his due dilligence as a reporter.  I question the source who told him, and I question Dan Snyder’s sanity if it is true.

Again, Hog’s Haven might be on to the solution when he suggests that Fassel might be an OC candidate.  This is still nuts, but it wouldn’t shock me if we didn’t interview him.  As Skin Patrol says the relationship between Al Saunders and Joe Gibbs was always a bit touchy.  It wouldn’t surprise (though it would sadden) me at all if Snyder is looking to replace his OC.

So where does that leave us?  As most of you know, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports mentioned there was a mystery candidate for the HC job.  It is possible, that Fassel is the candidate as La Confora suggests.  It is also possible that Fassel came in for the OC job and there is another mystery candidate but the “sources” for Glazer and La Confora were mistaken.  It is also possible that Fassel came in for the OC interview and he was the sources were mistaken for what job he was interviewing for. And it might be that Al Saunders has said he has no interest in being Gregg Williams’ OC. And if that is true, why do we need Williams?

In any case, I’m not happy with Fassel being a part of this organization in any way.  He seems to be a stand up guy and very disciplined, but he really lacks imagination on offense.  I liked where our offense was heading at the end of the year, and I don’t see any reason to change it.

I’m still betting on Williams and still hoping for Grimm.  But as far as I can tell, we’ve never even interviewed Grimm.  There were rumors we did, but then they were proven incorrect. We’ll have to wait and see, but when the name Jim Fassel is attached to your team, it can’t be a good thing.
