Pats Preview

Sorry for the lack of posts this week.  It has been a busy week, but I also think I’d have made more time if I had a little more confidence this week. Like most of the fans reading this site, I don’t have a ton of confidence going in to this week.  I think there is a 50% chance that we get totally run off the field like the Pats have done to everybody else.  I think there is a 40% chance we cover the spread (16 pts the last time I saw), and a 5% chance that we make it really close.  And I think we only have a 5% chance of winning the thing. Did that actually add up to 100?  My god, I can still add in my gloom.

You don’t really need me to tell you why we’re going to lose. The Pats have the #1 offense and the #4 defense in the league.  Moss, Welker, and Stallworth are doing their best “Greatest Show on Turf” impersonation. Laurence Maroney will be back this weekend so the Pats won’t even be unbalanced.  The defense is full of smart, healthy veterans.  As the season wears down, they might wear down, too.  But for now, they’re still good.

Our o-line is still in a shambles and we haven’t been able to run the ball consistently since the Lions game. Jason Campbell has done a really good job lately of checking down to his RBs and TEs but again, since Detroit, we haven’t been able to stretch the field with the WRs.

The defense has been playing great and Greg Williams will have a great game plan to slow them down.  And Shawn Springs is the ideal corner to cover Moss.  He has the size to matchup.  And a few hits over the middle from Sean Taylor may also rattle Moss. But unless Taylor goes over to Moss and hits him during warmups I don’t think it will matter.  I love Sean.  Sean has made great plays for us, and he is having a fabulous season.  But even with his improved emphasis on coverage, he still let’s people get behind him a couple of times per game.  Brady will hit those and we will be in trouble.

Gloom?  Yes.  Doom?  Yes. Truth?  Probably.

But you didn’t really need me to tell you these things.  The mainstream media has been saying for weeks that the Colts and Pats will play each other next week in the greatest game ever played in any sport in any country at any time (until next week when we need to boost ratings by hyping something else). With that in mind, I’m going to make a second post.  That post shows how the Redskins will win if they do.  In the mood to sulk?  Just read this one.  Want some reason for hope?  Read the other one.
