This Is What It Is Like To Be a Cards Fan

I know morale has been down a bit among Redskins fans the last few years.  Two playoffs appearences in ten years (or something close to that) will do that to you.  It is harder for us to get excited than it once was, and easier for us to get down, but what we’ve gone through is nothing compared to what Cards fans have gone through their whole existence. I invited Cards fans to come here and play up their team and this is all they could muster:

“Flip a coin and its any ones game…. Wish I could talk smack but the truth is both teams are treading water.. Good Luck!”

“It’s funny, I remember reading a similar article about the Cards on a Pittsburgh blog a few weeks ago.  It read something like ‘there’s no way this team can beat us, we’re too physical and we’re to experienced….’ something like that.”

And even Mike Duggan at Raising Zona all but admitted his team would lose in his weekly preview:

“Prediction:I hope you realize this is a blog site for Arizona Cardinals fans, me being one of them. That being said, you’re never going to read a prediction from me in which I don’t pick us to win.”

I know they are 44-77-2 all-time against us, and 4-21 against Coach Gibbs, but could you imagine being the fan of a team where the best thing you can say going into a game is “we’ve got a coin flip’s chance,” “if you underestimate us, we’ve got a chance,” and “you know it would be logical to pick the other team, but I can’t pick against my boys.”

The next time you get a little down on the Skins, just remember, you could be a Cards fan.  No pride.  No sense of tradition. Putting out hope for an endless parade of new coaches and 1st round draft pick busts.

I’ll give ‘em two things though–1) Any Cards fan that has lived through their existence has to be called loyal to the end. 2) I really dig the whole rolling the field out in the sun thing they do at their stadium.

Do you think we could get Danny Boy to do that just for fun?

DW – You want to talk about pride?  I had two comments from Redskins fans on my site, one was from you!  Quite a turn out. You want a quote?  Here’s what the one Skins fan had to say: "As a die hard Redskins fan from Riggo’s Rag, I want to say that I have no real malice towards the Cards.  You have some excellent wide receivers, a stout defense, and the Edge is looking like he’s back to true form……but the Redskins actually have a very good team that’s very motivated not to lose after two painful losses that shouldn’t have happened.  Timing just isn’t in your favor this week."  After all your articles – one fan, wow!  And even he thinks its just a matter of timing that will get you the win instead of skill.  Now that’s pride.  Hail Deadskins!

Yeah, I’ll admit it.  I didn’t get anybody fired up this week.  I guess I’d have been better off ranting on how I hate Kurt Warner and his scary ugly wife.  That seems to be the only way I can inspire people around here to write in and comment.  I concede defeat in the race to get more fans to comment.  However, I will not concede the win on the field, and I will console myself by saying the reason I didn’t get anybody excited was because the opposition was boring. :)

Come on, readers.  You let me down.  I know there aren’t millions of you, but there are enough to put out a bigger showing than that. Oh well. Go Skins!
