Rogers Out, Eubanks In

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

As most of you have already heard, Carlos Rogers is out for the year.  Anyone who saw his knee twist could have guessed this. I held up on posting anything about this until we had the corresponding roster move.  Redskins.com announced that they have signed practice squad cornerback John Eubanks.
There is no question that this is a blow. One of the key differences between last year’s awful team and this one has been depth and talent at defensive back.  But unlike last year, the loss of a single player is unlikely to hurt us as much.  Fred Smoot has been [...]

Now If We Can Only Get Terrell Owens to Date Ashley Simpson

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

In a Riggo’s Rag first, we will be linking to an article in People magazine.  The magazine that keeps you informed on whose breasts are real and whose are imaginary (err…enhanced) let’s us know that Tony Romo hung out with Britney Spears this weekend. Apparently, Romo and Spears hooked up while dining at an exclusive Hollywood restaurant called Ketchup.  I don’t know about you, but when I think of eating with Britney Spears in a restaurant named Ketchup, I can only picture this:

Seriously, what in the world is she eating there?

Given that Britney is toxic (pun intended) to every career she [...]

Respect

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

I got an email from my friend Guy Damrosch (he comments here under the name Gehenna) last night after the Redskins game that sums up my thoughts better than I could:
“I think I’ve officially joined the Anti-Patriot camp. Good God they spanked us.
First, let me stress that they were a far better team and I give them total props for turning our stout defense into swiss cheese. They dominated us in every aspect of the game, and nothing I say after this will change the fact that they killed us and absolutely deserved to win.
That said, I wonder [...]

If Steve Spurrier Can Do It…

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

…then Gibbs should win by 50! Yes, the Redskins beat the Pats and Tom Brady the last time we played them in 2003. In fact, we’ve beaten them every time we’ve played them since 1972. I’m banking that at least half my readers weren’t even born then. The Pats have beaten every team in the league since the last time they beat the Redskins. We’ve beaten them six straight times. We own the Pats.
With that in mind, think about this, too.  In the last two years, the Colts have beaten the Pats 3 times.  They have published the blue print [...]

Pats Preview

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: None Yet

Sorry for the lack of posts this week.  It has been a busy week, but I also think I’d have made more time if I had a little more confidence this week. Like most of the fans reading this site, I don’t have a ton of confidence going in to this week.  I think there is a 50% chance that we get totally run off the field like the Pats have done to everybody else.  I think there is a 40% chance we cover the spread (16 pts the last time I saw), and a 5% chance that we make [...]

Wearing Your Lucky Underwear for the Skins

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

I’m not a superstitious person by nature. I don’t have a problem walking under ladders.  If I spill salt, I generally just figure my blood pressure is better off without it. If I knock on wood, it is usually my own forehead.
But the one place where I suddenly get goofy about this stuff is with the Redskins.  This year, the Redskins are 4-0 when I wear my Redskins jersey on Sunday. On the two sundays where I either forgot to put it on or they were in the wash, we lost.  I actually blamed myself.  In previous seasons, I have forgotten to put one [...]

The Whole NFC East is Ugly

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

No, I don’t mean the tough competition and huge rivalries. I mean plain old butt ugly. According to a survey by Travel & Leisure magazine and CNN Headline News and reported by Yahoo at this link the city of Philadelphia has the least attractive, least friendly, and least stylish people in the United States.
But before we go crowing over Eagles fans too loudly, it turns out that according to the article, “Philadelphia just beat out Washington, DC and Dallas/Fort Worth for the bottom spot [for attractiveness].”
As a person who does not live in Washington, DC, I do not take [...]

Oops

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

This quote from the Washington Post game wrap up:
“Once you got the dog down you got to kill it,” Smoot said.

Fred, Fred, Fred, please find another metaphor. You’re killing me. Some suggestions that would be less politically charged in the post Michael Vick world:
“Once you’ve broken in to the house, you have to steal the jewelry.”
“Once you’ve invaded Iraq, you have to invade Iran.”
“Once they’ve taken pictures of you when you’ve forgotten to wear panties, you have to run over their foot with your car.”
And of course there is always, “Once you’ve rented the boat, you have to [...]

Woohoo! We’re 4-3!

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: None Yet

Nope, that’s not a typo.  That’s just an admission that we will not be able to beat the Patriots.  That’s OK.  We don’t match up well.  They’re a better team right now. But that’s what makes this narrow victory all the more important.
To be honest, I didn’t see the whole game.  Direct TV screwed me, and it was not available to me.  But I saw large chunks of it on their Red Zone channel (which is a fantasy player’s dream, by the way, if you haven’t checked it out) including the end.
Without seeing the game, I can’t comment on some of [...]

Cards Game Preview

AUTHOR: daveskins | IN: Redskins | COMMENTS: None Yet

I did a pretty full preview a few days ago when I discussed the advantage we have on defense.  But I thought I’d do a run down of our health situation and make a few predictions.
The good news is that Rabach and Wade will probably play. Marcus Washington may not but Godfrey has replaced him well. Santana Moss has had a week to practice and will hopefully be back in the swing of things.
You already know I’m predicting a win.  The only question is whether we’re going to come out like we did against Detroit or like we did against [...]
