Sigh, Thomas Out With Surgery

The Redskins announced today that Randy Thomas was going to have surgery to repair his torned tricep as early as this week.

While it is too early to know how long Thomas will be out, you’d have to think at least until November and probably the whole year. The Redskins said they were going to, “work out three center/guards on Wednesday morning.”

Obviously, this is a blow, but Jason Fabini and Todd Wade were excellent in pass coverage last night.  I worry more about the running game as I felt we didn’t get the same explosion off the ball on the right side.

A trade is a possibility as well.  I’m not saying that the Skins have had any talks but when you look around the league there are some teams with a surplus at guard including Detroit who have numerous good backups at guard including Stephen Peterman and the 49ers with David Bass as their 4th guard (who can also play center).

Another option is Mike Pucillo who is our backup center. Pucillo could also play guard if necessary and he is an excellent run blocker.

It will be interesting to see who works out for the Skins.  The older folks might remember fondly that several of our beloved hogs were late draft picks, cast offs, and undrafted free agents. I trust Joe Bugel to find another diamond in the rough and keep this team and line intact.  But geeze, can we please go a full week without losing anybody for the year?
