Redskins.com announced the signing of all our lower draft picks today, leaving Laron Landry as the only unsigned player.
For those keeping score those players include linebacker Dallas Sartz, lineback HB Blades, and QB Jordan Palmer. All figure to be practice squad fodder this year. Palmer may not have been drafted at all if he didn’t happen to be the brother of Carson Palmer of the Bengals.
As for Landry, don’t expect him to be signed until some other players in the first round break the ice. Generally speaking, the players establish their slots by waiting for a few choice players to sign. While it is hard every year, it is often easier because sometimes the first overall pick has a contract negotiated before the start of the draft. This year Jamarcus Russell has shown no signs of budging, and the only pick to sign is Bears TE Greg Olsen who went 31st overall. If players work their way up from there, it will be a long time until Landry establishes his slot. Hopefully, things will pick up as training camp approaches but don’t be surprised if he misses a couple of days.
