D-line Help?

by Redskins

Skin Patrol over at Hog’s Haven linked to this story at Viking Update which essentially says that Corey Simon might be available shortly and the Skins may be one of the teams willing to audition him.  It would be nice if Simon is over his mystery illness, but if he is over that illness then why are the Colts releasing him?

Personally, I’m more willing to take a chance on Tank Johnson at this point.  After all the hand wringing and moralizing on the AM dial and on shows like Around the Horn, it turns out Tank didn’t do anything other than drive 40 in a 25.  With Tank innocent but still released he becomes an intriguing player.

I know, some of you think I’ve lost my mind.  Just because he didn’t drive drunk doesn’t erase the gun convictions, and you’re right.  But here’s the deal.  The man presented a plan for his own recovery.  He has stuck to it for these short weeks and someone, very likely someone in the NFC and maybe even the Cowboys, is going to pick him up.  Talent always gets a second chance.  And those of you willing to give Sean Taylor a chance should certainly be willing to give Tank a chance. That kind of talent isn’t going to be available cheaply very often this time of year.

Thoughts anyone?

I see what you'e saying, and I certainly don't condone drunk driving.  But the legal limits are very low (for a good reason) these days.  It isn't hard to drink a very reasonable amount and still approach the legal limit even at 300 lbs.  As for the 40 in the 25 part.  I sometimes drive 40 in a 25 and don't even realize it particularly at night when the roads are empty.  I don't even think that's judgment.  That's just driving.  Anyway, I think it is hypocritical to keep Sean Taylor on our team and not consider Tank.  And of course, considering is different than signing.  I hope we're doing our due dilligence and checking him out at least.

He was VERY close to the legal blood alcohol level limit.  Had he been pulled over a half hour earlier, it might be a completely different story and he could be facing DUI charges.  The man knew he was on very thin ice, and he made a big deal on how he was going to be the posterboy for reformed problem players.  He then went drinking, drove himself home and, knowing he had been drinking, started speeding. His actions may have been legal this time, but his judgement was way off.
