Ticking Time Bomb?
With the news that the Bears released Tank Johnson, I thought it might be a good time to break out a new segment here at Riggo’s Rag. I do a lot of the talking here, and lately comments not related to cheerleaders have been pretty meager. So in the hopes of drumming up some comments, I thought I would pose a question and not give my answer until after I got a couple of comments. In this case I have two questions:
1) Is anyone else amused by the fact that the Bears thought Tank Johnson getting pulled over for DUI “compromised their team’s credibility” but they thought letting him play in the Super Bowl despite being convicted of gun charges was just fine?
2) And now for the serious Redskins question. With the commish cracking down on anyone being arrested, anyone who has a friend arrested, anyone who happens to watch while someone else gets arrested, or anyone watching more than one episode of Cops, are we worried about our team? Between Sean “give me back my ATV” Taylor, Fred “Love Boat” Smoot, Clinton “the Giggler” Portis and Chris “The Sniggering Sidekick” Samuels we have some serious talent dedicated to less than choir boy behavior.
Are we worried?
Comment away. (Please, dear God, let there not be total silence) And I’ll have my take tomorrow along with your new Wednesday dash of cheerleader cheesecake.

Not to act as too much of a Bears fan but, after his arrest for the probation violation (but before the jail time obviously) Tank Johnson provided a rehabilitation plan and said he was going to be the NFL's "Man of the Year". That's why they said it hurt their credibility because they accepted his word and would lose credibility if they didn't hold him to his promises. That and I don't think they would have cut him for the DUI if he hadn't already had the gun charges etc.Personally he shouldn't have been allowed to leave the state for the Super Bowl, but then considering the results, it may have been more of a punishment to go…

The difference is that Tank Johnson embarrassed them the second time, though I totally agree that it's silly at best and disingenuous at worst on the part of the Bears. 2) I think we're ok. CP and Chris Samuels haven't done anything (to my knowledge) that would even remotely come close to committing punishable offenses. Thoughts and words aren't typically criminal.Sean Taylor and Fred Smoot are another matter, but I don't really know if Fred Smoot did anything wrong. Taylor is the "bad boy" on the team but I'm hopeful he's reformed. Remember Mike Sellers used to have difficulty passing drug tests, years ago, though has clearly reformed. PFT's Turd Watch (http://www.profootballtalk.com/turdwatch.htm) reveals exactly zero Redskin arrests this year.

And Taylor is really the only Skins player anybody should be worried about.
